Anyone experience OHSS?

My ER was two days ago and they got 16 eggs.

I am now feeling run down and bloated, and have some abdominal pain when I move certain ways or lightly press on my belly.

I know some of this is normal, but when should I become alarmed?

Tomorrow morning I am buying a case of Gatorade. Is there anything else you know of that helps?

Re: Anyone experience OHSS?

  • It's normal, I know women w more at ER who felt same way, and some with less who felt the same- completely normal bloated sickly feeling!!! Gator aid, high potassium foods, lots of water and walking to keep blood flowing and everything moving/ circulating!

  • The whole week up to transfer on mine I could barely get out of bed and move. It wasn't until transfer day I was starting to feel better but I still looked like 6 months pregnant. It was unreal (both times!!!) I didn't think I'd ever feel better :( (hugs!!!)

  • ER was always painful for me for about 3-5 days after, I think that's very normal, they have to make a ton of punctures to your delicate ovaries, that normally make 1 or 2 follies per month, you know? The first time I did the Gatorade and salty foods and all that, the second time I didn't bother and recovery was exactly the same.

  • My first IVF cycle they only got four eggs and I felt perfectly fine immediately after waking up at ER. I'm paranoid that this will affect the success of the transfer. Thanks for the reassurance everyone.

I worry that too, because I always have a lot of pain and so far have yet to have a successful transfer, but next time we're gonna try to add Valium to my transfer so FX that works. Good luck with your transfer.

  • I had OHSS my last medicated cycle. However, I was IUI. It started about 3 days after the trigger. It was bloating, extreme bloating. Like I couldn't put pants on, bloating. Severe abdominal pain. I could feel my ovaries when pushing down, because they were that enlarged. I was nauseous. I had issues with the poops, meaning I was on the toilet, frequently. If I ate, the pain and bloat became that much worse. At times, it was nearly unbearable. I ended up on bed rest for several days after. My advice- call your RE. See if they want you to check in with them or the ER. Drink Gatorade. Eat small portions of food that's high in sodium..... I'm so sorry if you're going through OHSS. It's awful. Good luck.
