I don't really fault Target especially since they don't sell guns or ammunition. If they did, it might be a different story.

ETA: although I don't live in a state where that's legal. I'm pretty sure id freak out if people were openly carrying guns in the store I was at with my child.

I do not want to see this when shopping for toys.
I do blame Target. Starbucks, Sonic and Chipotle banned guns from their premises, most likely due to the publicity generated by Moms Demand Action.

I blame idiots like these people who think it's ok to openly carry in that manner. I live in Texas have my concealed handgun license but I won't carry into businesses, even if they allow it. I most certainly wouldn't carry that obviously either.

It is such a touchy subject, at least around here it is, but it's not a wise choice to get a point across (whatever the point may be) this way. From what I gather, most gun enthusiasts around here are not only more concealed with their carries, but they do not support this type of carry.

Here is follow up to open carry in Target. If this doesn't scare the $hit out of parents I don't know what will.

  • Yikes. This is the kind of stuff that has me beyond terrified. I would do everything I could to vacate a store as soon as possible if I saw this group. We are from Texas and are heading back for a long trip in the fall. I'd be lying if I said I'm not freaking out about going to an area that's making the news for these type of gatherings. I just don't get it.

  • I have no idea why this is Target's battle to fight. They are just following state and federal laws.

I hate when whack jobs give normal people a bad name. I don't carry a gun and never will, but most of my family members have concealed handgun licenses. They take gun safety extremely seriously, are very well informed about applicable laws, and skilled with guns, and would never, ever wield a gun in public. Or in any instance that it made other people uncomfortable for that matter.

But why is this controversy Target's problem to solve?

  • That picture is enough to scare the crap out of me. I don't want to get into a big political battle, but there is no reason to carry an automatic weapon through a store like that. Luckily, that would never ever happen where I live.

I do think Target - or any other places of business - really have to have policies that follow the law in situations like this. They couldn't ban BFing in the store because women have a legal right to BF in public. Even though I personally disagree, I think the same goes here.

  • I am not comfortable around guns, but I do believe in the right to own them. Target is not breaking any laws. Texas is one of the most lenient states when it comes to right to carry. Groups should take on the state government to change the state laws , and not take it out on Target who had not broken any laws.
Can't figure out the signature thing, so here's the short, short version.....first daughter born on November 10, 2013. She was conceived through the magic of IVF after 2+ years of TTC.

Unfortunately Target is not breaking any laws. However other retail stores do not permit open carry in their stores. I am confident that all the negative publicity and pressure generated by Moms Demand Action will cause Target to rethink their policy. After the hacking issue they don't want more bad press.
@Dragonfly1226‌ Unfortunately I do live in a state with the laxest gun laws around and could easily imagine being confronted by these gun crazy bullies.

  • Ugh!!! Those people demonstrating in Target are what make responsible gun owners look bad. Target isn't doing anything wrong. I actually think it's smart that they stay out of this stuff and leave it to the laws that are in place. I wish they would stop dragging these retailers into their political agendas.
