That's awesome, and makes me feel better that I kept taking his hat off at the hospital because I liked this softness of his hair better than that stupid little hat. That, and the hats are so thin I kind of liken them to panty hose...so thin it's more for looks than warmth!
Cool article. Thanks for sharing. I can already hear the grandparents complaining about "put a hat on that baby. It needs to stay warm. Heat escapes from our head. Blah. Blah. Blah. "
I am tempted to send them this article now in preparation.
Love it! I was just out shopping with my mom earlier, and she insisted on buying more hats because she didn't think we had enough. I couldn't help but feel that it really wasn't a big deal...
Eh, while I don't think healthy full term newborns need hats all the time, I'm pretty skeptical of the implication here that your baby wearing a hat is going to interfere with bonding and breastfeeding, or contribute to postpartum hemorrhage. That sounds like a bit of a reach.

Hat your kid or not, but I don't think it has any effect on bonding or breastfeeding. I actually think it's kinda harmful to be telling this to moms who's babies are in NICU (ie don't get to smell their babies heads that first day), or adoptive parents. They have enough to worry about, without adding "oh no, our bond is going to be harmed by the fact that I'm not smelling my baby's head".
If you can't bond with your child because they are wearing a hat, you're doing something wrong.
PS. I enjoyed DDs new baby smell with her hat on, no problem. And we breastfeeding to a year, unaffected.
Now hats and SIDS, different discussion.
