Cloth Diapering

wetness rash?

Help! I've been dealing with a rash on A the past couple days. Hasn't gotten worse, but also hasn't cleared up yet. I'm thinking it's just from her skin being wet a lot. I change her every feeding (1-3 hrs) or if I notice she's wet, but she's a heavy pee-er so her prefolds are always pretty wet.

It's not bumpy, just like two red lines/ridges along her tush, where her cheeks meet.

Coconut oil didn't seem help. I've been trying calendula cream and CJ's and air time. Not much makes a difference. I'm trying to change her more often abs Goff her extra air time.

Anyone else dealt with asimilar rash? Suggestions?

Not that I can think of. ... oatmeal and coffee for breakfast, lots of bananas and peanut butter, watermelon, kashi bars...no OJ or other citrus fruits lately

DD has this problem sometimes. I ended up putting a disposable and some Aveeno cream on it and it went away almost immediately (I had no CD safe cream at the time, but had Aveeno and some disposables lying around). Pinstripes and Polkadots gives Aveeno a decent CD rating, but I accidentally got some on a CD and it took some scrubbing to get off. So good cream, but use a disposable or maybe even a liner.

  • DS2 had that for a bit at a similar age. It got better when I started patting his crack dry at each change.  Also, you might need to consider changing more often.  When he had the red crack I stopped putting a cover on him so I could see as soon as he was wet and would change him right away.  That also helped me figure out roughly how often he peed so when I went back to using covers I knew I should change him every 1.5 hours at the most.

  • Thanks for the advice. I have been putting her in prefolds with no cover when we're at the house.

I just put on some Arbonne diaper cream with a disposable insert and a Thirsties cover. Hoping that helps.

I think I definitely need to change her more often. I just forget when she's sleeping and R is running around like a crazy child.

  • It is easy to forget, especially if you're tired like I was with a 3 year old and newborn, plus the two dogs.  Having DS2 without a cover was the best way to remind me, because I would get wet if I didn't notice!  Also, my DS2 was a sharter, so every diaper had poop in it.  That also contributed to a sore bottom, especially if he pooped at the beginning of a nap and I didn't want to wake him to change him.

  • I believe coffee leans towards the acidic side of the scale, so you might try cutting back on it and see what happens.
