We plan on cloth diapering. I've been a nanny for 7 years, and everyone always used disposables. The idea of cloth just sounded intriguing to me... they're so darn cute! It's cost effective and I'm a stay at home mom so why not? I'll have the time to wash diapers, I do laundry constantly anyway, so why not. I have 9 bum genius diapers already, and a friend is giving me her prefolds, oh and a friend bought me an Alva. I'm hoping we can get more from the shower, but otherwise I think we have a pretty good stash already! I'm just really excited about cloth diapering and I can't really explain why. I guess the $$$$ saved in the long run is a really good start, especially on a militray income!
We cloth diaper with our first born, she had very sensitive skin and eczema related to a dairy allergy my previous ped failed to diagnose (current ped is much better fit for us). Cloth was much better for her, but we knew we'd use cloth before she was even born, we just made the mistake of trying to use all the disposables the hospital and friends gave us first, she did not appreciate those one bit. We're going on nearly two years of use, and I've tried dozens of brands thanks to a lucky break with an opening in a popular cloth diaper website for a reviewer. I'm so excited to cloth diaper my second baby as well, I know it's better for the environment, better for my budget, and better for her body.
I currently cloth diaper my 23 month old son, and I love it! We started a few dyes after birth with prefolds and covers and he now wears bumgenius 4.0s during the day and flip covers with a hemp booster at night. We also use cloth wipes, though we also have a pack of regular wipes around, sometimes I don't refill our cloth container often enough. I have already started building my stash for the twins. Interested to see what 3 in cloth looks like...:)
