High-Risk Pregnancy

Perinatologist and Hematologist are in disagreement!! Please help!!

I posted earlier this week about having Factor V Leiden. I'm 23 weeks pregnant and have been on baby aspirin since 4 weeks. I had 3 miscarriages. I went to a perinatal center and at 20 weeks they said to just stay on the baby aspirin. I went to a hematologist for a second opinion and to discuss what FVL really is. I don't understand it and just wanted his reassurance. Well, that didn't go as planned. He said while the baby aspirin is helpful, he thinks I should be on Lovenox shots to prevent stillbirth, only 30mg preventative dose. Hematologist wants me to make an appt with Perinatal and is writing me a letter. I just don't know what to do. Any suggestions?

The perinatal center won't see me until next week so now I'm really nervous.

  • A hematologist is more specialized and it would seem would be the person you would be sent to to confirm the best course of action for you!! Are you working with high risk OB? If not I would contact one, explain the situation and use them as a third opinion!

I contacted my high risk OB. She said she would support the perinatal center's opinion because they are more concerned with the baby's clotting whereas hematology is more concerned with mine. I am meeting with both to see what's going on.

Yeah, I think that's why they just want aspirin. Aspirin does cross and help with that.
