How's breastfeeding going this week? It's been tough. DS nurses for 45 min at a time but still seems hungry after. And my boobs constantly hurt.

How old is LO? How long between feedings? On demand or on a schedule? LO is 3 weeks today. He goes anywhere from 2-4 hrs. On demand.

    EBF, EP or supplementing? Supplementing

Challenges? I think DS hit his growth spurt because he is constantly hungry and cries anytime we put him down. We think he's going too long sleeping and not eating during the day so we are going to try waking him up every 2-3 hours during the day to eat so he sleeps better at night.

Raves and rants - same as the challenges above. My nipples are really sore and my boobs fill up fast so constantly ache.

NIP yet? Nope, I think DS is still to fussy to try.

Anything else - I seem to have a cold. Fun.

How's breastfeeding going this week? Great, no more issues.

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? Feed on schedule or demand? 3w old goes roughly 2 hours between feedings on demand.

    EBF, EP, supplementing? EBF

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ? The hardest part of BFing this week is finding time to nurse while maintaining DD1's schedule and activities. Poor DD2 had to nurse in the carrier while walking to DD's music class yesterday. I feel bad that I don't have more time to just sit around and take care of her.

Raves and rants?apparently DD2 knows when it's meal time. She will sleep for hours but the second I sit down to eat she wakes up ready to nurse. I have now perfected the art of eating wih one hand while nursing with the other. My mom is horrified!

Have you tried NIP yet? Where have you fed LO? Yup my boobs have been all over town. At brunch with my mom on Sunday, at the bakery while eating cupcakes, at another bakery while getting coffee (did I mention DD2 eats as soon as I try to eat,LOL). At the playground while chasing DD1, and in the baby carrier while walking through the park.

Anything else you want to share? My mom is driving me crazy. She's been here for a week. I appreciate the help but right now icant wait for her to go back home. The constant criticism and trying to plan out my life is just no welcome.

  • How's breastfeeding going this week?
Not too bad, my left side has healed enough to actually feed her from it and not just pump from it.

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? Feed on schedule or demand?
She is just over 2 weeks old and lately it's been every 1.5-2 hours between feedings. Except in the afternoon, she tends to take a 3-4 hour "nap".

EBF, EP, supplementing? EBF. Started pumping when my left side hurt bad enough to not offer it to her. And to start building a stash.

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ?
Some reason she's taking longer to latch, she latches then let's go. I just take a deep breath and relax then she normally latches just fine.

    Raves and rants?
Now that I can offer her both boobs, I'm not able to pump as much since I'm feeding her at least every 2 hours. My in laws are coming to visit next week and I need to have somewhat of a stash since I'm not comfortable feeding her in front of other people :-/

Have you tried NIP yet? Where have
    you fed LO?
Closest I got to NIP was in our car while DH went and looked at computers. So other than that she's fed at home.

Anything else you want to share?
Happy my in laws are coming to visit next week, we get along very well. And maybe hubby and I will be able to get out of the house just him and I. Wishful thinking but you never know ;-)

    How's breastfeeding going this week?

Just ok. I am still struggling to get him to keep a good latch. It's frequently too shallow and I am STILL dealing with soreness. I am considering trying to EP, but not sure how that would work with two other kiddos... Also considering supplementing and doing a combo, but not until at least four months.

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? Feed on schedule or demand?

5 weeks today. Usually three hours during the day, and two hours in the evenings. At night I've started to get a four hour stretch or two! Feeding on demand, but noticing he is falling into a pretty regular schedule on his own.

    EBF, EP, supplementing?

    EBF for now at least..

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ?

Just the shallow latch, soreness. Was getting better but struggling again. No solution.

    Raves and rants?

Rant- soreness. Also dealing with insurance and getting a breast pump. It has been a pain, but hopefully I will have one today or tomorrow. If not I'll just have to order some replacement parts for my old one. Rave- more sleep at night!

Have you tried NIP yet? Where have you fed LO?

Yes, at the zoo. Next week I want to resume taking my older boys to story time and the family center at a local museum, so will be doing more NIP soon. Was hoping to have the latch issue resolved before that because it makes things tougher.

  • How's breastfeeding going this week?
    You know...I can't complain.

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? Feed on schedule or demand?
Piers is 4 weeks tomorrow. I feed on demand, though I am working it into a schedule.

    EBF, EP, supplementing?
EBF, though I started pumping to provide him with extra milk when he hadn't met birthweight at 2 weeks.

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ?
I took him to run some errands with me and brought a bottle of pumped milk. Only to get 30 minutes away and discover I did not bring a nipple.

    Raves and rants?
I tried mothers milk tea- it tore little man's tummy up and I lost two nights of sleep.

Have you tried NIP yet? Where have you fed LO?
After forgetting the nipple for his bottle, I nursed him in my car. I got curious eyes from the man I parked next to.

Anything else you want to share?
It's hard....but finally starting to get easier!
  • How's breastfeeding going this week?

Much better. Less latching pain. However, DS suck has gotten more stronger so that kinda pulls for a moment or two.

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? Feed on schedule or demand?

4 weeks today :) still about every 2 hours. Sometimes longer if he's really asleep. I feed on demand.

    EBF, EP, supplementing?

    EBF

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ?

Gas has been our big issue. Luckily it's much better and burps 1-2 times now when I burp him.

    Raves and rants?

During the day he's quite fussy so I feel tied to my chair to feed or hold him. But he is super good at night, so I feel bad for complaining.

I ordered my mei tai! The moby wasn't working for us. I hope I can make use out of this one :)

Have you tried NIP yet? Where have you fed LO?

Yep several times. I don't use a cover. I just put DS head in front or turn away to pull it out. Once he's on I don't care.

Anything else you want to share?

    Nope. Not today.

I think we are getting better. We now know each other so i know when to stop and burp him, when he's full and when he's hungry.

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? Feed on schedule or demand?
DS is 18 days old and usually eats every 2-3 hours except a 5-6 hour stretch that usually takes place at nights. We feed on demand.

    EBF, EP, supplementing?
    EBF

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ?
Early on this week we had issues with baby eating very fast and spitting up all the time. I now stop to burp him when he takes a break and try to guide him on how fast he swallows by talking and swinging him.

    Raves and rants?
    Nada.

Have you tried NIP yet? Where have you fed LO?
Not yet. We haven't left our house yet.

How's breastfeeding going this week? Going pretty good and DS is going longer stretches at night now.
How old is LO ? How long between feedings? Feed on schedule or demand? 5 weeks. During the day it's around 2-3 hours but at night we've been stretching from 3-4. Still feeding on demand.
EBF, EP, supplementing? EBF and pumping to keep a nice stash for when DH wants to give a bottle or mommy wants to have her bottle.....of wine.
What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ? No major challenges, but my let down is SO strong that when DS first latches on he keeps pulling away. I press on my nipple with the burp cloth for a few seconds and it slows things down. He normally stays on after I do that.
Raves and rants? I just wish he would sleep in his co sleeper or crib. He sleeps so soundly only when he's next to me and fusses or cries non stop if he's sleeping alone.
Have you tried NIP yet? Where have you fed LO? I do use a cover and so far I've nursed at a restaurant while sitting at an outside table, on a park bench and in the mothers room at BRU. I did not cover up in BRU since its a closed room but I'm not comfortable whipping it out in general public areas. I have a nursing cover that I love and I can see him well and he gets plenty of air and it's not heavy or annoying.

    How's breastfeeding going this week?

It's going well happily. I'm surprised by how much comes back after the first... like riding a bike.

How old? How many hours between feedings? Schedule or on demand? 1week 2 days. About 2-3 his between feedings. On demand. But I need to try to do something to flip those longer stretches to the night time.

    EBF

    Challenges and solution?

Not a whole lot. Feeling lucky.

Rants and raves? DD has been a bear. She doesn't listen. So I'm getting better at nursing DS while chasing her. Also I've gotten more diligent about breaking DS' s occasional shallow latch and he's been getting better with it too.

NIP? Not yet. Still hanging around home.

  • How's breastfeeding going this week?
Pretty good. Still using the shield but I think it is a permanent thing. Hasn't messed with my supply

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? Feed on schedule or demand?
3 weeks tomorrow. 1-2 during the day and pretty much like clockwork, every 2 at night. The pediatrician said since he gained so much at his 2 week appt (he gained 2 pounds!) he should be able to have a stretch of 4 at night. We have never had a stretch longer than 3 but by the looks of it, 2 hours seems to be the norm. I feed on demand

    EBF, EP, supplementing?
EBF and I pump so DH can wake up the first time at night

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ?
Just tired. By the time I fall back asleep, baby is up in an hour to eat again. Just really want a stretch longer than 2 hours

    Raves and rants?
    See above

Have you tried NIP yet? Where have you fed LO?
Yep. I go out a lot but the only place I've been long enough that I need to nurse is my nephews baseball games.

    Nope

  • How's breastfeeding going this week?LO went through her 2 week growth spurt.

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? Just over 2 weeks. During the day 2-3 hours last night it was on and off for hours. She would not go to sleep.

Feed on schedule or demand? On demand

    EBF, EP, supplementing? EBF

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ? Her cluster feedings have been challenging. Plus I think she has gas issues.

Raves and rants? My left nipple doesn't hurt as much as it did the following week. I think she has a much better latch now.

Have you tried NIP yet? Where have you fed LO? Yup, several times actually. My sister and I went to old navy and DD got hungry. I didn't eant to sit down and nurse her so I walked around nursing her.

Anything else you want to share? No, not that I can think of.

  • How's breastfeeding going this week?
Eh, it's okay. Just went to the doctor bc I suspect LO has reflux. Hopefully the Zantac helps.

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? Feed on schedule or demand?
5 weeks today. Anywhere between 1.5 and 4 hrs, but usually 2 or 3. Feed on demand, I wish we could start a bit of a loose schedule but we've been thrown for a loop with the reflux issues (he's been eating less at a time more frequently, also super fussy and not sleeping much)

EBF, EP, supplementing? Nursing twice a day and pumping and bottle feeding BM the rest.

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ? Reflux as mentioned, I hope he feels better with the Zantac! I also keep going back of forth over whether we should just give up with the nursing and just EP. LO is not an efficient nurser so I have to offer a bottle and pump after every nursing session anyways. We see the LC today though so we'll do a weighted feed to see if he's improving. I just really want bf to work out though so I don't want to stop trying. But I wonder when/how to make that decision to stop.

Raves and rants? Raves - our teeny tiny newborn is 7lb 5oz! He was born at 5.6 so this is awesome. He's obviously getting enough food, even of it's from the bottle most of the time. Rants - we see a speech therapist for exercises to help with my little guys sucking strength. He is refusing to do the exercises lately and at 100 bucks per appt, I'm also not sure if this is worth doing anymore.

Have you tried NIP yet? Where have you fed LO?
Nope. We need a whole set up of boppy, nipple shield, etc. so it's just too hard.
  • How's breastfeeding going this week?
Much better than last week, I think we are finally getting the hang of it. Still hurts a bit when he first latches on, but nothing like last week when I wanted to cry every time he latched on the left side.

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? Feed on schedule or demand?
2 weeks, 4 days, feeding on demand every 2-3 hours during the day. But he is cluster feeding and fussy from 7-10ish and then will usually sleep 5-6 hours at night. Also cluster feeding first thing in the morning from 8-11ish. I was waking him every four hours at night to eat until I spent a few nights spending an hour just trying to wake him up to eat, then another hour feeding, changing and pumping. Last night he went nearly 7 hours before getting fussy and waking me up. I felt guilty for letting him go so long, but he is definitely eating good during the day and having enough output.

    EBF, EP, supplementing?
Breast feeding but pumping to build a stash and DH will give 1 or 2 bottles of breast milk during the day.

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ?
The cluster feeding has been tough, for a few mornings he would pass out after nursing, I would put him down and try to go back to sleep only to have him wake up and want to eat 20 minutes later, and repeat for two hours. Then the past few nights he has been super fussy in the evenings and I can't put him down. I can't really complain because we get the long night stretch in exchange but it is still tough to deal with at the time. No solutions except don't put him down even if he seems passed out because he will wake up the second I do. Seems to finally settle down after eating around 10, but definitely is not a set schedule.

    Raves and rants?
DH got up with DS this morning and let me sleep, I think I actually got a full eight hours or so (with two hour long breaks in there).

Have you tried NIP yet? Where have you fed LO?
I have not NIP yet. We have been out quite a bit but have been bringing along a bottle of pumped milk. I have nursed in my backyard and tried to use a nursing cover, but I found it awkward and could not really see him, I ended up with my head in the cover most of the time. I think I will try the nursing tank under a t-shirt eventually but do not feel all that coordinated at nursing yet. But my Aunt and sister will be here on Saturday for a week and the in-laws after that so I will get in some practice because I am not comfortable pulling my shirt up in front of them all the time like I have been for the past few weeks to nurse.

Anything else you want to share?
I am majorly impressed with those of you who walk and nurse, I have a hard time doing it without a pillow.

  • How's breastfeeding going this week? Much better than last week. Our BF failure with DS a couple of years ago had me pretty nervous, but DD is doing great. And I found out this morning that she's gained 11.3 oz in one week, so that was a huge relief.

How old is LO? How long between feedings? Feed on schedule or demand? 2 weeks today. On demand. She's hungry every 2-3 hours, usually with one 4-hr stretch in the early morning hours.

EBF, EP, supplementing? EBF so far, but I've been working on a little bit of a stash with my Milkies milksaver and a couple of pumping sessions.

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find? Just emotional stuff. Breastfeeding is difficult for me for some reason, but I've been talking to friends and family about it and trying to stay calm and just get through one day at a time and it's getting better.

Raves and rants? I love my Milkies. I always thought they were overpriced and gimmicky, but after I got a full ounce from one breast in just 10 minutes, I was sold.

Have you tried NIP yet? Where have you fed LO? I've fed DD in a couple of public buildings, but both times I've been in a private room. And I've practiced nursing under a cover when visitors are in my home. No actual public nursing, though. I'm not ready for that. I'm plus size and large breasted and suck at using a cover.

  • How's breastfeeding going this week?
Going great! So much better than my last baby, and it makes me super happy.

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? Feed on schedule or demand?
LO is 5 days, feeding anywhere between 3 and 4 hours

    EBF, EP, supplementing?
    EBF

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ?
Positioning is hard, still haven't found a solution for better positioning while in public

    Raves and rants?
Rave: Calem is a nursing champ, and had been since day one.

Rant: kiddo has been sleeping too long this nap. I'm leaking.

Have you tried NIP yet? Where have you fed LO?
I fed him at the peds office yesterday.

  • How's breastfeeding going this week? OMG!!! Just finally got her to latch and actually get a good feeding today!!! First time she ever stayed on! So this is gonna pretty much me being excited that I fed her once... but I'm SOOOO excited that I can say I even fed her once!

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? Feed on schedule or demand? LO is 4 weeks. I thought we were too far gone to be able to get her to latch correctly. I do pump and she goes about 2 hrs between feedings. We feed on demand at night with formula and schedule during the day with breast milk.

EBF, EP, supplementing? Pumping with formula supplement at night. But hopefully since she did great today when we saw the LC we'll be getting more to the BF side of things.

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ? Challenges... HA! She has never wanted to latch since day one. She'll get on then scream bloody murder and we both get frustrated. Finally saw a LC today at a new moms support group and baby latched like she's done it from day one! Guess I was just not holding her right.

Raves and rants? Raves: just the fact that I breastfed!!! That's a huge thing for me, I want that bonding with her. Even if it doesn't work in the long run I want some of that time with her. I was starting to get depressed about it. I'm so sick of pumping on top of everything else to do, I was about to quit. Now that she's actually latching correctly I'll pump still to keep up supply when I need to. Rants: Pumping sucks. Cracked nipples suck. And now I gotta get her to BF correctly WHILE I have cracked nipples. I know some ladies pump to give the girls a break but I got cracked nips from pumping... now what do I do?!

Have you tried NIP yet? Where have you fed LO? Haha well my first time nursing was "public". Nursed her without a cover in front of the whole group and the door to the room open.

Anything else you want to share? Anyone have tips on fixing cracked nips? Besides pumping? I use lanolin or Earth Mama nipple cream every time. But doesn't seem to do much at this point. Been pumping 4 weeks and have had cracked nips for the whole time. I'm kinda terrified to get to to BF now because I'm scared it'll make them worse.

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? Feed on schedule or demand? 2.5 weeks, every 2-3 hours still, on demand feeding

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ? The screaming, constant unlatching and screaming, did I mention the screaming?! Went to the LC/NP today and got Zantac and hemoccults. If this kid poops again soon I can turn them in tomorrow and find out if we're dealing with MPI again this time.

Raves and rants? Very happy that I'm able to pump enough for DD to have almost 100% breastmilk again so we can do our gluten trial.

Have you tried NIP yet? Where have you fed LO? Went to my mom's group and nursed which doesn't really count. But we go out for drinks after and at least 3 of us were nursing during dinner and drinks :D

  • How's breastfeeding going this week?

Better, although I am nursing much less and pumping more.

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? Feed on schedule or demand?

I feed on demand all the time. He has been cluster feeding in the evenings and sometimes mornings. It's about every 3 hours, with one 4 hour stretch at night and another during his afternoon nap.

    EBF, EP, supplementing?

All 3? I nurse 2x per day, give BM in bottles, and top him off with formula in the evenings. I am enjoying our nursing sessions much more now that they aren't constant and painful, and I hope to increase them again when my husband goes back to work. Right now it's soooo nice to have him do morning feedings while i sleep, but soon enough I'll have to do them anyway so I might as well nurse.

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ?

Feeling guilty about doing more bottles than nursing, which is lame. I don't want to parent by guilt!

    Raves and rants?

Rave: Pumping hurts less, I get a decent amount of milk per session. Enough for 1.5 - 2 feedings.

Rant: Terrified that not nursing right now is going to mess with my supply. I think about how those cluster feeds would tell my body to make more milk and how I'm missing an opportunity, but I can't fathom sitting there all night nursing.

Have you tried NIP yet? Where have you fed LO?

I did in the back of the car. I also need my whole set up, with the My Breast Friend Pillow, lanolin, and nipple shield.

    How's breastfeeding going this week?
Great we are in week 5 now id say other than it still not being predictable in terms of timing for feeding she is finally starting to go liver between feeds at night.

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? Feed on schedule or demand? She will be 1 month on Sunday and can be anywhere from 1 hour to 3 hours no schedule yet :/ and we are on demand

EBF, EP, supplementing? EBF with one pumped bottle a night with probiotics for DH to feed her

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ? Finally feel like we've gotten over a hump with my over supply and now I am block feeding every two feeds one breast until it's completely empty to correct some suspected fore/ hind milk
Imbalance and she is spitting up less though still very gassy

Raves and rants? One of the tough things is MOTN feeding a where once were done in wide friggin awake and can't get back to sleep even if DH takes her out or she (less likely) falls asleep without sounding like a warthog

Have you tried NIP yet? Where have you fed LO? Oh yes...restaurants, back of the car, on a bench in the middle of a farmers market. I just hate that stupid cover it feels like nursing in a cave

Anything else you want to share? Just excited to have just about made it to a month and that she is doing so well and that with my one pump a day so far I can get 8oz.
