Time to Introduce myself

edited June 2014 in Secondary IF

I guess its time to introduce myself. I've been living in denial that I fit in here but our consultation appointment with our RE is today to get started on our second IVF. We were very lucky and were successful with our very first IVF, which resulted in our almost 2 year old twin girls. I have a couple questions for you all, if you don't mind.

How did you know it was time to do this whole thing all over again? I've always wanted a big family. After learning about our inability to get pregnant that dream changed slightly but I do know I want at least 3. BUT this time I know what I'm getting into! I'm having a hard time jumping into this knowing all that it entails.

I know there is never a perfect time for this. I'm just stressing over the little things...money, my relationship with my husband (which is great but IVF isn't easy on any couple), scheduling appointments between work, school and caring for my 2 children, etc.

(I didn't realize I had a signature. It's from when I was pregnant previously and I can't figure out how to remove it!)

Re: Time to Introduce myself

  • Welcome :)  I think knowing when it is time again for IVF somewhat depends on your dx and if waiting makes it worse?  If not, trust your heart.  When it works it is incredible, especially if it works the first time.  If you see my siggie I was under a false sense of security it would work again as easily.  I am now dx DOR though.  Have you repeated your CD 3 bloodwork to see if your numbers have changed?

  • Thank you! We are doing CD 3 bloodwork today. I am 26 and diagnosed with PCOS. The large issue is the MFI. My husband's count is low end of normal but morphology is the issue. We are doing a semen analysis today to find out where we stand with that now. Previously IVF with ICSI was our only option.

I wish my heart would tell me something! I know I desperately want another baby, I just don't know when the time will ever be right. :)

  • Hi there. I don't have any experience with IVF but I know what you mean about it being harder to get into again when you know what's coming. We started TTC again right after I finished breast feeding DD when she was one because we figured it would take a while. Here we are 18 months later. These ladies are great. Welcome to the board. I hope your stay is short.

  • Hey! I'm currently in my 6th IVF cycle w ICSI due to severe MFI. We knew before we were ready to get things started again, just bc we know the failure rates (living on the opposite end of spectrum, 5 cycles, 1 child on third cycle- hoping 3rd times a charm this time) and didn't want to start later and chance those failures making it even later we finally got ku'd. We had already wasted years figuring out we had to do IVF. We knew we wanted more kids and so waiting was never an option except for financially.

  • Hi and welcome. I'm sorry your here with us, but if you have to be in this spot having these ladies to support you is a major help. I will say there was a point in time where I swore I would never ever go back to the RE. It's much harder because you do know what you are getting into the second time around and I felt like I was going to be taking time away from G. Things change, we got to the point where I don't care what it takes if it's possible G will have a sibling. Cycling with work and a 2 year old is not easy, but I actually think I'm dealing with the emotional aspects of cycling way better the second time around because there isn't nearly as much unknown. Good luck to you and sorry I don't have any IVF specific advice.

TTC#1 May 2009- July 2010 on our own with no luck

Started with RE in August 2010, dx with unexplained IF and then finally our 3rd IUI cycle using Follistim and Trigger resulted in our wonderful little man.  Born 12/2/11

TTC#2 Never really prevented, but were careful early on as Dr. reccomended

Surprise BFP 12/16/13, started progesterone immediately as first numbers came back low, but betas were good.  Progesterone wasnt enough. Natural MC 12/24/13.

Back with RE as of January 2014...

    5/27/14- Chemical Pregnancy :(

    April 2015 IVF#1

    5/13/15- BFP, please stick LO!

Since we didn't have issues getting pg with my first I can't speak to that question, but if you haven't already figured out the signature I wanted to let you know that you can change it through the grey figure in the top right that leads to 'account options' (I was trying to do it the old way, which it still lets you do, and it took me a long time to realize that the 'account options' is the only way that will actually change your signature).  Good luck!

  • I hope it goes smoothly and quickly for you once you decide to move forward. It took us just under two and a half years to conceive my son, so we started trying again as soon as I got my first cycle. I have PCOS and we are trying a holistic approach, so it's not really comparable to IVF. But I also have always wanted lots of babies, so I didn't want to waste any time.

  • Welcome and glad to see you are moving forward.  It is really difficult to juggle a 2 year old with an IVF protocol and a job so I wish you all the best!  And you have twin 2 year olds which I cannot imagine.

It's frustrating how long it can take to grow your family.  I've been TTC #2 for almost a year but I am seriously determined to give DD a sibling.  I'm looking at an early fall IVF cycle if all goes well and I get the PCOS under control and in some ways, I do dread it.  Especially the retrieval which was very painful in the days after for me.  But we have to focus on the reward after the challenge (which I have to remind myself every day).

    Good luck!
