Milk allergy/lactose intolerance

Has anyone discovered their LO is lactose intolerant? What symptoms did they exhibit? Also, did it occur right away?

My DD has always been fine with me having dairy but my family has a history of lactose intolerance and my Mom swears they discovered it with me from my first birthday chocolate cake. Her 1st year appointment is after her birthday so I was curious of anyone has experienced this.

My nephew is highly allergic to milk. If he comes in contact with it, he gets hives all over. If he eats it he becomes anaplyactic and needs the epi pen. It's one of his highest allergens. It sounds like it might just be an intolerance, or a very small allergy. Symptoms include:

Diarrhea, vomiting, hives, rashes.

Did she have a chocolate cake? It could be that she might be allergic to chocolate.

I had a pretty bad milk allergy as a child.  We have yet to really try out WCM with B - so I don't know about him yet. 

But awhile back, before offering B yogurt, I asked my mom what symptoms I displayed as a child: horrible diarrhea, stomach pains and severe diaper rash (probably hand and hand with the diarrhea). For me, it was also instant - I got switched off BM and was immediately showing symptoms.   But I totally grew out of it by the time I hit 3rd grade or so.
