Help, 3rd trimester and doctor quit

Hey moms and moms to be,
I am in my third trimester and my doctor decided to just quit being an OBGYN. Not sure how true this is, but that's what the office told me when I went for my last visit. I had her my first trimester, then she went on maternity leave and I had another doctor for second trimester, then she came back and now has quit this practice. I have not discussed any birthing plans with the new doctor they assigned me and this is my first pregnancy. I'm very nervous about having a new doctor and I don't know what to ask. Any help would be great. Thanks

Finally, just ask the new doc & be upfront about your feelings. See what they say. They are human after all.

Just to say, it sometimes may not matter if you prefer one OB to another. Often, you go into labor at 2am & whoever is on call at your hospital delivers the kid.

Often the nurse staff is your greatest friend at the hospital anyway. The doctor just comes in at the very end

It sounds like you've had the other dr the majority of your pregnancy anyway but as PP have said usually you don't see your Dr till the very end. Heck i didn't see the nurse staff that often either, just when the monitors slid off my belly and to check how dialated i was getting (that only occurred like 3 times during my labor).

I had my first OB in Arizona, second OB in Washington, third OB in Georgia on a military base and my fourth and final OB at a civilian hospital. I'm due in less than 7 weeks. They're just doctors with the same MD in my opinion. You'll see them for 20 minutes during your delivery, the rest of the time you'll deal with the RNS.

I would be really open and honest with the new doc about your fears!  In my situation, my doctor was actually present for a lot of the labor and then I needed a c section so she did it.  I always thought I wouldn't have cared what doc was there, but when I look back on it now, I AM glad it was somebody I knew, so I can understand your apprehension.  But who knows - maybe you'll like this doctor even better!

ALso, I Think it's kinda shady that a doc quits this close to the end of a patient pregnancy - sounds like maybe s/he "got resigned" or something.

If the doctor was out on maternity leave, perhaps she just wanted to stay home with her baby. I don't think it's fair to call a doctor "shady" for quitting close to a patient's pregnancy. In that line of business, you're always going to have patients at the end of their pregnancy.

I would also reccomend looking into hiring a doula (labor support person). That way you can have someone you know for sure will be there and is familiar with your fears and wishes for your delivery. They can also help you with positions, pain management, and be an advocate for you with whatever care providers are there during your labor and delivery.

Not to sound insensitive or anything, but you'll pull through.  I had a regular Dr. throughout my first pregnancy, and then she happened to be off during the week I gave birth (Christmas holiday). I ended up liking the delivery Dr. even more.  I even had preeclampsia and had to be hospitalized for a week after delivery and never saw my regular Dr. once!  A slew of other unknowns came in to my room every other hour to update me on my progress.  I was just glad I was being taken care of by a professional and was happy to get several opinions and not just one.  Don't worry, this new Dr. will be just as qualified and most likely not distracted by a new baby like your last one.  Be thankful she resigned and left you in better hands.

I missed the part where she wanted to stay home with her own children -- I would just think that as a professional, you'd probably not take on new patients that were delivering after the point when you were planning to quit.  I didn't mean the DOCTOR was shady, just the situation-- like, not as cut and dried as "Hi, I quit," more like maybe things weren't working out.

Are you sure she quit practicing entirely ?

Perhaps she just isn't with that group anymore ?

Can you google her name to see if she is with another group now ?

. The 4 times I have watched my sisters give birth the DR was barely there. The literally catch the baby and go. So many times its not even your DR because he/she isnt on schedule. I wouldn't worry too much.
