Cloth Diapering

How do you use your bac out?

I found some locally and thought I might give it a try for poopy diapers. How do you ladies use it? Straight up in a spray bottle to spray on rinsed diapers? Or diluted? Only on poopy diapers that have sat or on everything? Teach me your ways.

  • I squirt some in the bleach tray of my washing machine during the main wash.  I have no idea if that's right or not, but it seems to be working ok so far.

  • I've just been spraying it full strength on poopy diapers after I rinse them before they go in the bag. Seems to be okay. I like how it smells!

    This.
  • Is this something you would need to do every single time or just every certain period of time?

  • I sprayed it on poopy diapers during the first couple of months or so. Full strength at first, then I started diluting it 4 parts water to 1 part Bac out, because at full strength you go through it super fast. And diluted, it still keeps the diaper pail smelling nice.

I stopped using it after we moved because it's difficult to find here. And then I found I didn't miss it. My diapers were still able to get clean after I made some adjustments for hard water. And coincidentally, DS's wetness sensitivity rash went away, but that could be due to any number of factors.

So I'm of the opinion that Bac out is nice but not a must-have. If you do a bit of Googling you will find that there are people who feel it is absolutely necessary to their wash routine, while others feel that it has caused problems. I think it's one of those things that you are not going to find a definitive answer on.
  • I go 60/40 water to bac out. I spay every inset before it goes in the pail at least once or twice and poopy diapers gets lots of sprays. I've never had any problems woth stains or smells, but use it as a preventative anyway.

  • I put a couple squeezes into my prewash.  But I only do this for my toddler's diapers.  And not with every wash.
