Um...WTAF?

Two 12 year old Wisconsin girls stabbed their friend, nearly to death, to please a mythological creature.

  • Holy shit, that is terrifying. That poor little girl, I'm glad that she lived, I wonder what the extent of her injuries will be. And how do you come back from that mentally? So sad.

I'd be weary of anyone inviting me to a sleepover ever again!

  • Sigh.  I was wondering if you guys were going to see this.

    A few things:
    1. this was less than a mile from my house--I live in a good area.  Not that it makes it any less terrifying, but I couldn't believe it.
    2. our sitter's son is in the same class as these girls.
    3. the paper here released their names and pictures because they're being tried as adults.  their bail was set at $500,000 apiece.

Obviously it's getting a ton of coverage here, but the scariest thing about this is their lack of remorse.  One of the girls seems upset that she got caught, but the other one doesn't even seem like she's bothered by it at all.  I was talking with our sitter's son this morning and he said that aside from the one of them being really into Star Trek that they were totally normal and that they were really good friends with the victim.

  • This is horrible. Was this creature thing part of a game or something?  I imagine this will cause parents to be more involved in what their kids have access to online.  I can't imagine that girls recovery.  :(

    @.

Edit: why the hell did I say school 100 times in there?  Sorry about that.  I'm quite worked up over this and the idiocy of some people commenting on the newspaper article posted online.

That is crazy.  I feel like one of the girl's must have something going on psychologically, and the other is just a follower.

  • I read that they could each get up to 64 years in prison. After reading what @MarisaKathleen‌ wrote, I hope they do get a lot of time. Clearly they knew what they were doing. Sick. That poor girl.

  • There was Buzzfeed article....it also releases their names & shows them in court yesterday but I don't want to link it here. It gives more info on this Slender Man character.

Personally, I had never heard of it until this morning....Hell, I won't even go in my basement by myself if I'm home alone.  I don't sit around reading scary stuff.

The thing that irritates me is all of this "where were their parents" crap.  To some extent, yes, I can agree with that.  But when I was 12 we didn't have Internet.  Now, everyone has it.  It's unrealistic to think that you're going to monitor what your kid sees online every time they're connected. It's everywhere.  If they wanted to find out about this stuff, clearly they will find a way.

There was another story on the news this weekend about some criminal who escaped from jail and police were hunting him.  I'll tell you what--I'd be a helluva a lot more scared of these 2 girls. They plotted this out for MONTHS.  They had different scenarios of their plan.  It's just horrifying.

  • For those of you wondering, Slenderman is a game you can play online. I've played it with DH late at night. Basically slender man is exactly how he sounds - a tall, slender figure wearing a suit. You can't see his face. In the game, for example, you're in a dark forest and you're looking for certain items. the game is completely silent other than some creepy ass music that is barely audible. You have a flashlight and are completely in the dark romping around the forest by yourself, and every few minutes, you'll turn and he's standing there, just looking at you. It's creepy as eff.

This story literally made me sick to my stomach. There is clearly some kind of mental instability going on with these girls, and I would never lay all the blame on the parents. But it is concerning that these girls played this game at all at the age of 12 without a parent knowing. And that they played it enough that they wanted to be his "proxies." It's not just like they stumbled upon this game/site/whatever once or twice. Seems to me like an awful lot of unsupervised internet time.

I've said it before and I will say it again - my kid is really gonna hate me when she's a preteen/teen.

  • I saw this on People.com <-very accredited source. I couldn't read the whole thing it made me so sick. These girls have SO many problems. Thank goodness the "friend" survived.

  • Yeah, this is insane. Based on what I have been hearing, it is almost like they wanted to get caught. I know what the news will be showing pretty much every night for awhile around here. But, seriously, 12 freaking years old!!
