Babies: 3 - 6 Months

How to Dress for Bedtime

My LO is 3 1/2 months old (will be 4 months old on June 18th). I was wondering what the most appropriate thing is to dress him in for bedtime during spring and summer? We keep the room he sleeps in between 70 and 72 degrees. I have been dressing him in footie long-sleeved pajamas so that he doesn't get too cold.

Is this what I should be dressing him in or am I possibly overdressing him. I don't want him to get either too hot or too cold at night. Any thoughts?

Re: How to Dress for Bedtime

  • Many will say that your room temp is too warm and should be kept below 70, but I personally keep room temps at around the same here.

I just dress DD in a footed PJ and a light sleep sack. If it's warmer than that, I'll skip the sleep sack.

  • We keep our house at 71 w/a ceiling fan running. I dress my 4 month old in a long sleeved shirt & diaper. She is hot natured though.  :)
  • I was doing footie pajamas up until about a week ago, when it starting reaching 80. When it gets hot, I put DS in just a diaper with a thin blanket. I also put a pillow case under him, so it keeps him cool.

it's it's between 70 and 80, I put him in a onsie with footie PJ pants.

Footie pjs and sleep sack. My house is a bit cooler at night and I have her fan on
  • Our house currently has cooling issues, so it doesn't go below 72 til after midnight. So our LO sleeps in a onesie. He's hot natured like his daddy.
  • I've been putting my four month old in a onesie (usually short sleeved) with a lightweight pair of footie pj's over top.  If it's chilly, I will add a sleeveless sleep sack.  Her room is around 72 at night as well.

  • I also do a short sleeved onesie and a cotton sleeper.
    Our house is about 69ish.
My kids are never cold though either, so I never worry about it.
  • LO turned 3mo today. She just wears a onsie and is swaddled with arms out. House is generally 71-72 degrees at night and we keep a ceiling fan running.

  • Our house is usually around 65 at night.  We dress DD2 (4 months old) in light weight footed pjs and a sleeveless fleece sleep sack. If it gets warmer, she uses a light sleep sack and/or a onsie instead of pjs.

Totally off the subject....but I think sleep sacks are the most adorable thing a little one can wear/use :-)  I'll be bummed the day DD2 doesn't want one any more.  DD1 (now 3 years old) never liked them.
