NWMR- 2 yr old scared of everything

Hey ladies,

I realize this isn't exactly WM related, but I value the advice I get on this board.  My son is all of a sudden scared of everything or as he says "Me don't want it!"  He doesn't want to take a bath, he doesn't want to go to school, he won't sleep in his room, etc.  He's also gotten a lot more clingy and his separation anxiety is back.  DH said he cried a lot at drop off the last couple of days and he hasn't done that in a long time.

I don't know if this is a phase or triggered by something else.  We had a really bad thunderstorm like a week ago and it seemed to start then.  I think the thunder scared him.  I'm also pregnant so I don't know if he is sensing it?  Or is it just a normal 2 year old thing that will pass?  Any tips or advice for getting over this will be appreciated :)

Re: NWMR- 2 yr old scared of everything

  • Sounds like a phase. Both my boys went through a stage like that around age 2-3. DS2 had it worse. He was waking up with nightmares every night, scared of storms, and scared of something in every Disney movie. He seems to be getting over it now. I would comfort him when he's scared, and do little things like hold his bedroom door open at night with a stuffed lion to scare away monsters. The argument "it's not real" doesn't seem to sink in at this age, but we talk about how Elmo is a monster, but he's a nice monster. I tell him how I think storms are exciting when we're safe inside, and we watch from the window together. I'd just keep doing what you're doing. This will pass.
