Bottle at bedtime question

DS is 8 weeks, formula bottle fed on demand. He eats about 5 oz every 3 hours during the day. Averages about 35 oz a day. His witching hours are 6-8PM and has made it pretty clear he wants to go to bed between 8-8:30. Today he had last eaten at 6:45PM and then was going to bed at 8 (while finishing up screaming). Since he had only ate an hour before, I didn't give him a bottle before bed. My preference would be to give a bottle to "fill the tank" as well as make it a little easier to get him to sleep. WHat would you do? Especially when feeding time doesn't line up with bedtime? I sent DH in a few minutes ago (10PM) to dreamfeed him.

Re: Bottle at bedtime question

  • DD was BF BM, but I would always give a bedtime bottle when she had a real bedtime, otherwise I would just dreamfeed her before I went to bed.

  • I would offer a smaller bottle and see if he would take it.  I like to feed LO right before he goes to sleep because he usually falls asleep nursing :-)  And to "fill up the tank" as you put it.   Plus, it's part of our bedtime routine, and I don't want to mess with that.  If he's not as hungry, he'll eat less.   I'm sure your LO would do the same thing -- eat less.  Just watch for satiety cues :-)
