Since the preferred genetic traits post I've been wondering if DH and I could possibly get a green eyed baby. Sweet Pea has brown and Peanut has blue. I found this chart and thought it would be fun to share.
My doctor told me that all babies are born. With blue eyes, and they change as they baby gets older. Ds has blue eyes and they stayed blue. Anyone's Lo born with a different color (other than blue) eye????
This is great!! I love anything that has to do with genetics. Thank you for sharing!!
ETA: I was looking and the brown + blue combo may be wrong because my mom has brown eyes, my dad has blue and I have green.

I have extremely dark brown eyes, some call them black. But my mother tells me that when I was born they were lavender. She said the doctors made a big deal about it because it was so unusual. I'm assuming it was just because my eyes were meant to be so dark that it kind of mixed with the blue. Who knows! My mom might be exaggerating!
TTC #1 since November 2008
3 MC: #1 at 8wks (blighted ovum) opted for D&C, #2 at 6wks natural, #3 at 12wks (no heartbeat) opted for D&C.
EDD 11/11/2014..... Heard a heartbeat for the very first time at 8w2d and I couldn't be more excited!!! The fact that this LO has a heartbeat gives me hope that I may get to be a mother after all!!
Fun fact: Blue eyes are caused by a gene mutation. So therefore, Hitler's perfect blue-eyed and blonde race were actually people who were flawed.

I thought so too. I'm wondering if the darkness of the brown eyes effect the outcome. DH are more Hazel; light brown with some greenish areas.
FI & I both have brown-green with a gray ring around the edge it's so weird, we have like the exact same eyes. pretty sure we're not related. hoping our baby gets the same eyes cause they're COOL
thanks for posting, i also love these kinda charts
I love this kind of stuff. My mom and dad have brown eyes they have a browned eyed child, blue eyed and a green eyed. My mom is also a biology teacher and I was showing her this and she said there is research saying the blue eye gene is a mutation that turns genes on and off and there is a chance that two blue eyed parents could have a brown eyed baby.
Ummm...I don't believe this is right from my understanding of genetic traits coming in pairs. I'm not necessarily a biology genius, but I believe this is a bit off. I hate to be a bummer but there is only a 25% chance that a brown eyed person and blue or green eyed person would have a child with the recessive trait. I'm not sure on the others, but I'm sure they're wrong too. I would draw a picture of how the charts work from what I remember but I'm in bed
It's impossible for me to get a close guess with eye color. Lol! I have blue and brown mix in one eye and the other eye mixed blue brown and green. So from afar, it looks like I have blue eye and brown eye. DS has gray eyes and DD has hazel eyes with one small stripe of blue in one eye. Perhaps LO will have blue eyes more than brown because FI has blue eyes and I have some blue. We'll see what happens.

My youngest sister had very very dark eyes when she was born. You couldn't really tell any color, just dark. She has hazel eyes now.

I was going to post this as well; I love this calculator! Apparently I have an 8% chance of having a child with blue eyes, and yet two of my three children have blue eyes; genetics can be really fascinating.
My mom's are hazel and my dad's are blue. I have gray. DS has gray with some green flecks in it. DH's are brown... so yeah, not sure how to guess about the LO, lol. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
@sparklingwhit eye color is influenced by more than one gene, so a simple pennant square isn't going to give you the right odds.
That's fine. Like I said I am def no biology genius. I would say this chart is wrong as well though. It seems that they basically are stating it is 50/50 in most scenarios and doesn't seem to be taking into account recessive traits at all. No matter what it is less likely to have a blue or green eyed baby if one person has brown eyes. Brown eyes are still dominant. It's not just a flip of the coin. My numbers may be off, but I think this is way off.
Thanks for sharing! It would be really cool if this baby had hazel/green/blue eyes. My entire family and I have bright blue eyes, and my DH has brown, but his dad has green eyes and his grandpa has light blue eyes. So there is a chance!
My mom's eyes are green... my dad's eyes are blue. Mine are brown. (Except when I cry, then they look a bit hazel.) It is telling me I AM NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE BROWN EYES! lol. Well, I do. And my dad's are definitely blue.... and mom's are very hazel-y green.
Someone asked about babies having blue eyes... My daughter did not. Hers were so dark they looked like sparkly black diamonds. Then they mellowed out into a nice chocolate brown after a few weeks (or months... I don't remember).

@TC0514 I think it only works when you put in eye color for both sets of parents as well as you and your mate. It won't work for me because Dh is adopted and I have no idea what his bio-parents eye colors are.

I think its so odd that blue and blue equals 99% blue, but brown and brown, and green and green, don't have that high of a percentage.
DH and I both have blue eyes
