Anyone using NFP...

Anyone using nfp?  Are you nursing?  Has your fertility/cycles returned?

I'm only nursing 2-3 x a day.  I've had my first pp cycle and am on cd14.  I am having very slight spotting, brown/old blood and it is throwing me for a loop bc I've never experienced that in my previous post partum cycles but I also nursed longer and more often then.

Anyway just looking for someone like me ;)

Re: Anyone using NFP...

  • I'm exclusively breastfeeding (very rarely pumping,) so I haven't had any signs of return of fertiliy. I don't know about your bleeding, but maybe it's related to ovulation or breakthrough bleeding? Either way, I'm pretty sure most methods would have you treat it as potentially fertile.

I'm also EBF and have no signs of a period! So I'm not counting anything!

Same here! I want to use it though when my periods return.

PSA: everyone should know, if they don't already, that you CAN ovulate before getting your first period postpartum. This is why charting mucus is essential.

  • Thanks all for your responses, @ bmerr yes I understand about $... I'm really in a financial bunch right now but bc of our age dh and i are not waiting...

lalaith50 I became pg with ds#3 without  a pp af... but ds #2 was 9months old and eating some baby food so not nursing exclusively.  It does happen even with those not giving supplements. Therefore, I was thrilled to have my first ppcycle and be moving on towards the possibility of conceiving but with this freaky bleeding and my age = the sads...

mrsdahamm that is funny but if you really want to learn about it there are great references, books, and yes videos etc.  I am not squeemish at all so...

  • I've had 3 periods and they are all over the place! I have always been insanely regular and don't use proper NFP, but can predict my schedule enough to be a bit loose. I've charted a number of times to understand what's going on. I also spot with ovulation so I know when it happens.

I have absolutely no idea what's going on now. We had an oops and I have zero concept of if we're safe or not.

  • We went to a seminar at our local hospital which is Catholic affiliated which is where we delivered both of our children at. We are not Catholic but the hospital was amazing. Anyway they had a NFP seminar that DH and I went to to try to get pregnant with DS. And I used it as our BC during the time between DS and DD. There are some realky great apps out there. I used MyDays. The Fertility Friend is another good one. I EBF DS and I got my period 6 week PP. This time around I haven't received my yet. However DH got the big V last month.

  • Nickiechan yes I use fertility friend.  I haven't started temping yet,  planning to get new thermometer this weekend.  The last one I used for the pregnancy prior to conceiving Levi- I threw it away when I had my loss.  Conceived Levi without it!
  • I'm afraid we are doing NFP. I can't do hormonal BC because of high blood pressure, and I have metal allergies so I don't want to do an IUD. I am EBFing and haven't pumped or done bottles yet, so I'm hoping I'm nowhere close to being fertile right now. I used fertility friend before Charlie and liked it a lot.

I also used fertility friend and it was great. Except that I didn't conceive Fiona until I stopped using it - which I guess us what you want if you are using it as bc.
