S/O bday party invites

DDs bday is in August. A lot of her friends that she's been with all year are moving up in June, but b/c of her bday she won't move up til September. Her class right now is about 20 kids, but they combine the 2 preschool classes for the summer so there will be about 30 kids in her class. I'm thinking that for her bday party I will invite a mix of kids from her current class and summer class, but not all. There's no way I can invite everyone (40ish) kids. I'm just curious what other moms think and would do in this situation. I think I will pick a number that I can handle and let her choose who to invite.

I think it depends on the size of the party.  I haven't done a friends party for either of my kids, and DS has not been invited to any birthday parties through school and only 1 from a neighbor.  I think maybe people around here don't start friend parties until later, and I am glad not to have to attend a bunch through the preschool.  Given that I typically have small parties anyway, I would probably say invite 2 friends.  If you are having a bigger party I might say invite 5 friends.

We had her first friend party at 3 (in hindsight I should have waited a year, but she had fun and I was excited to do it). Last year she only had 12 kids in her class so we invited everyone plus some other friends. We ended up with about 10 friends, which was good. We haven't entirely decided what were doing for her party. It will most likely be at a park so I don't have an actual cap on how many kids I can have. But financially I do have to consider how many people (kids + adults) I'm feeding.
