Have to throw away?

DD gets frozen milk on Mondays, but woke up with a fever this morning so she's staying home with me. When I made her bottles last night the milk was still slushy, but was completely thawed by this morning. Do I have to toss both bottles? Would the morning one still be ok tomorrow morning?

  • technically they're supposed to be good for 24 hours after completely thawed, but i would give them a sniff tomorrow morning. if they're off, you'll know because they'll smell sour. if they still smell okay, they are probably fine.

  • Agree with PP. Also, DD probably won't drink it if it's gone bad. I'm not sure how old your DD is, but if she is getting a lot of nutrition from solids at this point, I might be tempted to skip the solids for today and give the bottles instead...or give the bottles and then pump instead of nursing at those feedings. I wouldn't want to risk throwing away any breast milk!

  • Thanks! I was thinking of offering one of the bottles (divided into smaller portions) today on top of nursing, I figure since she's sick it might be good to try to increase her fluids? Then I'll smell the other bottle tomorrow morning to see if I can save it.
