Stink and questions

Our diapers have an odor to them. They are just kinda stinky when wet. It doesn't smell like ammonia. I cold rinse, hot wash with rinse, then cold rinse again. We use BG detergent. I have a ton and got it for my shower, so I would really like to keep using it. I hang dry the shells and AIO but put the inserts in the dryer. Any suggestions?

I also just got the shell to a BG 4.0 but no inserts, how can I prep one diaper? Can I just wash it with the others a few times before using it. I plan on using it as a swim diaper at our house.

If they just stink, they probably aren't getting clean.
If you're using it as a swim dipe it doesn't need to be prepped. Prepping ensures good absorption, swim dipes don't absorb.

Thanks. I can just throw it in with the others then? Also would I just add more soap or more rinses? We have a top load washer.

If LO has been swimming in chlorinated water I wash swim diapers with towels on hot with my CD safe detergent. If he's just been in our baby pool at home with hose water I wash with my other diapers.

Add more detergent. Then watch for bubbles on your final rinse. You want enough det. to get them clean without having extra causing bubbles at the last rinse. You may need to run one wash with some bleach to get rid of any bacteria left from poo/pee that didn't get out of your diapers the last several washes you did.

If you find you can't get the diapers clean without having bubbles at the end, you may need to switch detergents.

I just washed everything. I put in more soap but it was too much. I am running another rinse. Should I pull out the wet bags and run with bleach or try them all again and do it next time?

I'd go ahead and bleach while you've got them all in there and clean.

Well the stink is gone so that is good. Now one of my wet bags is wet on the outside and neither of my pail liners are dry from last night.

you can use a pillowcase for now
