Cloth Diapering

Cloth Wipes Solution

Hello! I am new to cloth diapering, this will be our first try at it on our third and final child. I figure this is my last chance to give it a go since I've always wanted to!
I made some wipes over the weekend and am now looking at solution recipes. Most seem to call for tea tree oil and lavender oil. There is also one that uses castile soap.
Dr. Bronners has a lavender castile soap as well as a baby soap, would it make more sense to just use the castile soap that already has the lavender in it? What has been your best luck with wipe solution recipes? Keep in mind my oldest had SEVERE citrus allergies, to the point where even eating citrus gave him immediate diaper rash when he pooped (which my mother in law NEVER listened to, so we always had a rashy little man), so we'd like to avoid any citrus ingredients in the wipes.

Re: Cloth Wipes Solution

  • I use this recipe:
    2c water
    2T olive oil
    1T baby soap/shampoo
    few drops of TTO
and if I'm in the mood, I'll add some variety of essentials oil (lavender, orange, lemon, etc)

I can fill 2 peri bottles from my post-partum days with this.

  • We use either plain water or with a few drops of baby soap in the bottle.

  • I use LuSa baby wipe juice.  I dilute it in distilled water.  1 bottle of it can make up to 2 gallons.  You can get your wipes wet ahead of time.  Or use it in a spray bottle and spray the wipe or bum as you go.  I started using LuSa after making my own solution which turned out greasy.
  • Plain water in a peri bottle from the hospital. I prefer plain water and, if needed, a fun diaper cream (like CJ's)

  • I guess, I want something rather than plain water lol. I like a fresher smell! I may just give Bronner's lavender castile a try and see how it goes :)

I put a few pumps of our mustela physiobebe no wipe wash, a couple drops of tea tree oil and a tea spoon of witch hazel in a spray bottle with water. LO hasn't had a rashy bum and it cleans well. That being said we do use just water as well

  • I use a squirt of witch hazel and a few drops of Homestead Baby wipes solution, diluted with water. I'm two years in and only halfway through the bottle that I have. But I think it's been discontinued.
  • I love the EcoSprout bottom spray!  It's nice to have a little something more than water, especially after the the night diaper.  You can get it in concentrate form with nice stainless steel travel bottle.  I get mine at cutiepoopsandbottoms.com

  • Any suggestions on good cloth diapers company, affordable...I was told to purchase 18-24

I use water with a few pumps of CJ's carcass cleaner/wipe solution.  Or just water.  When he was EBF and pooped a lot we wet the wipes and stored them in a wipe warmer.  Now that he eats solids and poops once or twice per day I just keep a peri bottle of solution on the changing table and wet as needed.  We actually use more dry wipes than wet most days.
