Am I Leaking?? (Tmi)

Ok I'm 36 weeks today. For a couple weeks I've been leaking "downstairs" a bit. Sometimes more than others. A watery substance. Not like reg discharge. But I can't determine if it's amnio fluid, just my discharge changing consistency, or maybe a little urine that can't be contained. Anyone have any experience with leaking? Not sure if I should just keep calm and go about life or if it's something I should call the doc about. (I'm not having contractions or anything, so I don't know if this is a bad symptom or normal one)...

Any info? Thanks guys

A lot of women have said they were told to put on a pantiliner and go in if it was soaked in a couple of hours. Maybe try that?

Also, at this stage, that's a perfectly normal question to call and ask your doctor about. They'll be able to give you advice (like the maxi pad thing). Don't feel strange calling, it will also put them on notice in case it is your water and they need to get you set up at L&D.

They can test it to see if it's amniotic fluid.

Thanks for the input I have to say I have been pretty lucky for a FTM with a fairly seamless pregnancy so far, so I really haven't needed to call the doc for anything yet. I just wasn't sure if this was a NBD type of symptom or if it was a "maybe it could be something" symptom. I'll definitely give the doc a call.

Call. I called them last week when i thought I might be leaking and they had me come in to the office right away, and he did a little swab in my vag and tested to see if it was amniotic fluid. It's quick and easy and they would rather you be safe than sorry. It's their job to do this... So don't feel embarrassed about calling. Mine turned out to be just a lot of extra watery discharge since I had lost part of my plug. But I'm glad I went in to get checked

When I was pregnant with my daughter I had the same thing happen (granted I was 40 w 3d at that point).  It could have been normal discharge, or maybe a little more.  I called, and the hospital said to just stay at home and see if contractions start.  They did, 2 hours later, and things progressed from there.  So it's hard to say what your doc/L&D will say, but worth a call.

I had this same thing happen when I was also around 36 weeks. It turns out it was just watery discharge. I asked my dr and he said it's totally normal, and it's your body getting ready to lube up the birth canal. Gross but necessary if you think about it.

None of us are able to tell you for sure. It really could be either discharge or fluid, so yea, go get checked out.

Leaking fluid before your baby is term, is kind of a big deal... just sayin.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I called the dr, headed to the hospital, turns out everything is normal. Not leaking fluid. Everything is on schedule and we are on track for a late June baby!
