Omg I just woke up with my eye swollen shut! Got a bee sting yesterday, but it didn't even swell at all then. Woke up to not being able to open my eye. Awesome! There's actually things I wanted to do today. Just took Benadryl , any other suggestions?

Re: NTTGPR: WTF vent

  • You can try putting a soup spoon in the freezer to get it cold and then placing it on your eye.

  • No other suggestions, but last time I got stung it swelled like a golf ball.  My doctor prescribed me an epi pen because he said the next time I get stung it can be worse, since my first reaction was bad.  Not to scare you but just for you to be safe.  Thankfully, I haven't been stung since but they scare me now.

    I've been stung 2x before and it never swelled up. We do have an epi pen just in case. Wondering if every sting reaction is going to get worse. Well I will have to get better about wearing my bee suit. I just went out to look from a far at the entrance feeder. Dang it.
    @danieleandwayne‌ I'll try that too.
  • As someone who had progressive reactions to bee stings and now carries an epi-pen-- yes, they will most likely get worse every time.

    Bees are not as bad for me-- but yellow jackets (who come after me like it's their job) and wasps/hornets are HORRIBLE. Definitely worth getting checked out with an allergist if you are concerned and need it official...

  • I second the allergy testing. But if this was the first sting the antibodies might not show up in the blood work. But it's worth getting tested. Bee stings are nothing to mess around with.
    Benadryl should work but there are stronger meds a Dr. Can prescribe.

    Hope the swelling went down.

    @Davie813‌ Yeah we are Beekeepers. Fun hobby, just want to make sure it's not to my expense though. We always wear our suits to go in a maintain the hive, but I just happened to be walking by, closer than what they liked. Ugh, making an allergy testing appointment just to be on the safe side. Weird part is, the day I got stung (Saturday morning) my eyebrow wasn't red or swollen. Sunday morning woke up like this.....image
  • Oh my girl!! Did swelling go down??

    Yeah, I could open my eye by evening. Just a little swollen today. You wouldn't notice it if you didn't already know.
  • CML11   hope you get better quickly!
  • That looks like it was not pleasant at all--glad it's better now!
