Microfleece liners

My LO is developing a rash which I think is due to moisture sensitivity. It's mostly on his groin are, none on his actual booty. We mostly use prefolds and covers. I've started doing some naked time for him during the day and that makes it look a whole lot better until he has a poopy or really wet diaper and then it's red and rashy again. He gets changed every 2-3 hours. I was thinking of getting some microfleece liners. Have you noticed that they really make a difference for moisture sensitivity? I know I can DIY it very easily, but it's a lot easier for me to buy them right now so I'm thinking of getting some of the Bummis brand liners.

Re: Microfleece liners

  • This sounds exactly like us in the early months. To be honest I found it fussy to get a fleece liner to lay flat under a prefold. It was easier to change him more frequently. We changed before and after each feed and sometimes in the middle if he pooped. We probably averages 19 diapers a day during that stage.

Also, Grandma El's for a diaper cream. A little bit goes a long way.

  • How old is your LO? It was hard to keep DS's bum from getting red since he pooped all the time. But since he pooped all the time I was changing him every 1-2hrs. Usually closer to 1.... sometimes less. And sometimes going through 3 diapers in a change.....
  • He is 12 weeks. I have been using cj's at each change but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I am trying coconut oil starting today while I wait on my grandma el's to get here.
  • Yeah, we struggled with wetness sensitivity and frequent pooping (and acidic poops!) from about 5 weeks to 18-20 weeks and then he seemed to grow out of it.

It wouldn't hurt to try the liners. I personally didn't love them, but they did come in handy later when we started solids and had those peanut butter-y poos.

But definitely try more frequent changes, and even some diaper-free time if you can. And Grandma El's.

Yeah I'm with freezorburn. We only had good luck with fleece liners when using somerthing like a GMD workhorse. Otherwise they kind of shifted around and didn't help much.

  • I have the Bummis fleece liners, I think it might be hard to use them with a prefold or flat using a snappi, but we use them over bamboo inserts (done like an AI2 with a newborn cover) and they work REALLY well. The liner will feel dry to the touch and the insert underneath will be SOAKED. I have a fussy latcher/eater, so I don't like to interrupt feeding sessions to change him once he's latched on well. With the liners I know his bum isn't touching wetness so I don't feel terrible leaving him an extra 20-30 minutes while I finish a BF session.

We also use Earth Mama Angel Bottom Balm as our diaper cream of choice and it seems to be working well - no rashes yet!

I'm actually planning on buying some more Bummis fleece liners when our local CD store is open again on Tuesday. Right now we have 10 (2 packs) but I want 10 more, since they work so well and will last way longer than newborn phase.
