Ammonia is getting worse

So I posted a few days ago about starting to smell ammonia when putting the dirty diapers into the wash. Now they are smelling like ammonia as soon as she pees. The ones that were really bad I soaked in hot water for an hour or two. What else can I do? Is this happening because I don't spray or rinse my diapers before putting them in the wet bag? Wash routine is cold rinse, hot wash Tiny Bubbles, extra rinse, two dryer cycles. I'm nervous this is going to keep getting worse. They are still smelling fine out of the wash for the time being. My stash is mainly a combo of GroVia and Best Bottom stay dry, plus a few workhorses and AIOs thrown in the mix.

  • When I used Best Bottoms inserts I had to wash with Tide. I tried using Charlie's and Eco Sprout and both of them started giving me ammonia issues before the end of the first container full.

  • What the woman whose only been cding for a week said. Their either sitting too long between washes or something (hard water build up, detergent build up) is preventing the ammonia Chrystal's from washing away.

  • OK so I wash EOD religiously. I've never let them sit in the wet bag for more than two days. There are a few bubbles on my final spin, so should I try less detergent first? Also I kind of hate HE front loader machines. I just feel like there is never enough water in there to get everything fully rinsed and cleaned. Also my machine only does cold for the rinse/drain/spin cycle... I can't change it to warm rinse. I'll try Tide powder to see if that helps, but I've got a whole unopened box of Tiny Bubbles sitting unused. Ugh. Usually how many hot water washes to initially fix it?

  • Rather than rinse and spin is there some kind of quick wash you could do to rinse? That's what I use. It's a balance between enough detergent to get them clean and not too much. Doing a warm quick wash instead of cold rinse might rinse better. Tiny bubbles is supposed to be pretty good. You need to do hit washes until there are no more suds.

  • Yes, there is a quick wash setting I believe. I can probably do that with warm water...good thinking! I agree that might be better. I always look at my dipes after the initial cold rinse and they still look pretty dirty. So when you do the repeated hot washes, are you not supposed to use any detergent so that you rinse out all the detergent build up?

  • Yes. That may or may not help depending on what the problem is.
