I know what they recommend for weight gain during pregnancy, but I'm curious as to real life. For you stms, what was your TOTAL weight gain last go around?
It just seems there's soooo much pressure to stay under of over a Certain amount, I'm wondering what reality looks like
S14 August Siggy Challenge.....ALL OF THE ALCOHOLS
I gained 23 lbs last time, and lost it all by about 3 days pp. I was at the high end of a healthy weight when I started, and I'm convinced it was a freak occurrence.
I've already gained 17 this time around, and I started out 10 lbs over my starting weight with #1. I'm already 2 lbs over my weight at delivery with #1. I'm sure it won't fall off this time, either.
I gained exactly 38 lbs with both DD1 and DD2. I was at my ideal weight before my first pregnancy. My second pregnancy my starting weight was maybe 3-4 lbs over what it was with my first pregnancy. With a 17 lb weight gain as of now at almost 25 weeks, I think I'm on track for a very similar weight gain again. My body just does it's thing each pregnancy. I'm one of those who gains quickly in the beginning of the pregnancy and then balances out toward the end.
Somewhere around 25 with DD, and I ate pretty carefully, so it was mostly all baby and baby-related weight. I was down to pre-pregnancy weight with no work whatsoever in less than two weeks. Then gained a heaping ton of weight over the last year. Really regret doing that.
I'm eating like crap this pregnancy and have already gained about 25 pounds.
With dd1, I gained a lot. 45-50, with some pretty significant leaps between appts. I also swelled, a LOT so I do think that had a lot to do with it. Dd2, I think was about 25# gain. So far I'm up 4#, but I usually start slow and gain at the end so we will see. I anticipate I will swell up again. I was overweight to begin with and the midwife said it would be ok to not gain any weight. So there's that.
I gained 30 with DS, and I've gained totally different this go around-10 right off the bat, then nothing, now up another 5. With this one I started out 5 lbs more than with DS. I'm going to be closer to 40lbs with this one.
I'm 22w4d and I've gained 12 lbs so far! I'm 5ft5in and started at 120. My doctor said to gain 35. I didn't start gaining until second trimester, I thought I was sooo lucky but now I'm gaining 2 lbs a week and it scares me a little!
Welp. I'm already up 20+ pounds so I'm going to go bury my head
Yeah...I'm up about 20 so I'm scared to see where I'll end up! My problem was that I felt GREAT during first tri but was starving all the time so put on 10 lbs that trimester. I guess I'd rather gain weight than feel like crap but hitting that 20lb mark already makes me sad. I know it'll be worth it though.
I gained just over 35lbs with my first, and about 25ish with my second. So far I've gained ~12ish, but I'm also way more active having 2 babies at home. Also I should add with my first, I gained 8lbs in under a week due to pre-e and massive swelling. But, I delivered both my boys at 37w, so those numbers could have been a bit higher if I went longer.. Or maybe not because if I didn't have pre e maybe I wouldn't have swelled too much? Who knows. Most people I know gained around 25-35lbs.
ETA.. With both my boys, I lost almost all of the weight by 3w pp.. Held on to 10lbs by the 3w mark. After my first, I was still up 5lbs at 3mos PP, but got KU.. With my second, I was up around 5lbs again still at 4mos PP.. But, seriously, had I not kept getting KU, I'm sure I could have gotten those last pounds off! I also didn't nurse long... I've heard that helps a ton!
Nursing is kinda a double edged sword when it comes to weight loss... at least for me. Yeah, it takes a lot of energy to produce that milk... but I found that on weeks that I didn't take in enough extra calories or exercised a lot my supply took a dip. So I lost a lot of weight right off the bat with DS, and placenta vacating the premises and tons of water weight coming off... but then I plateaued. I nursed DS until 10 months so was JUST starting to get serious about diet and exercise when I got KU again. :P
I gained 41lbs the first time and lost it all. At 25w, I was up 22lbs. This time I am only up 12lbs. Both boys.
ETA I am 5'3, 105 pre-preg.
You're about my frame...I'm 5'2" and started at 108.5 (usually sit at 103-105 but well...I had a lot of wine over the holidays! Lol) At 24w I'm up 14.5.
I'm the same frame as both you ladies... 5'2" between 105 & 110. With DD gained 23lbs I think. This pregnancy I was so sick that I lost 7 lbs during first tri and have gained 4lbs back. Both girls.
With my first I gained exactly 50. Lost about 30 the first 3 weeks. Then gradually lost about 10 more. Hung on to 10. This pregnancy I have only gained about 10-12 pounds at 26 weeks.
Welp. I'm already up 20+ pounds so I'm going to go bury my head

Similar here - except I felt awful for the 1st trimester (and through 20 weeks), but eating settled my stomach a little. I think I was averaging about a pound a week, and probably still am even with exercise and trying to eat relatively well.

With DD I gained about 35 pounds. I think most of that was water weight and baby though because I only had ten pounds left to lose when I got home from the hospital. DD was born on her due date at 7.5 lbs.
50 on the nose. Most came off pretty fast but I had to work hard for the last 10 and never quite got there. Haven't gained as much this time but I feel SO much bigger. Makes no sense.
I gained 45 with DS. I am on the taller side, almost 5'8" so it didn't look like that much but it definitely felt like that much. 30 pounds of that was gone 2 weeks after he was born so I must have been retaining a lot of water. I ate carefully and was pumping and lost the last 15 before I went back to work after 12 weeks. I was on a roll so then I lost about 10 more to put me at an average weight for my height. This time I have been so hungry all the time. I think I am on track to gain less than last time but we'll see. With DS I spent the last 6 weeks wanting nothing but pizza. Sigh.

I voted 31-35. First one i gained 50 lbs i didnt exercise and ate a lot of pizza lol. Second one i gained 35 and felt a lot better that pregnancy and also ate a lot better that time around. This time ive tried to eat good esp since i did the zone diet for 8 weeks before i got prego and lost 13 lbs. So far im 20 lbs up which is high but i dont feel like i look it. With baby, placenta and fluids that weighs 25 pounds. So to me im just hoping to stay under 40, hoping to stay near 35.
I gained 30 lbs with both boys and lost all but 4 lbs when I got pregnant with DS2 and DD. With DD I had my smallest gain, at just 22 lbs, but I only lost 5 and stayed 17 lbs higher the 8 months after she was born and before getting pregnant with DD2.
Re: What's the average?
First round of Clomid in May 2012= BFP #1, DD born January 2013
BFP #2 in January 2014, DS born September 2014
Odd that weighing 1 pound more than someone else before BFP can mean a 10 lb difference in weight gain rec
