Bednest? Sleeping arrangements

Have you guys heard of the bednest? Up until now I was thinking of putting baby in her crib in her own room but I don't think I will be ok leaving her in her own room right away. My room is so small a crib does not fit so today I found a website called bednest and was looking for some input on what everyone is doing for sleeping arrangements.

Re: Bednest? Sleeping arrangements

  • Putting her in a bassinet in our room for a few months, much smaller than a crib.
  • Loading the player...
  • We're planning on using a pack and play in our room for the first little while. Right up against the bed so it's kinda like a co-sleeper. And then probably crib in his/her own room which is right next to our room
  • DS slept in his swing in our room then switched to a pnp til we started bed sharing around 4mo. We bedshared til around 13mo then moved him to his crib in his own room.

This time I'm hoping to start off in the pnp in our room; well probably bedshare again because it's just so much easier with BFing, but I'm not comfortable bedsharing right away.

  • We saw the Bednest at baby show. It's an amazing crib. Will last 6 months. Attaches to our bed. So easy to connect. And rented it for £79 - arrives like a new one. Best baby item we have.

  • We did a bassinet beside our bed for the first few months, and then moved her to the crib. I loved the bassinet when she was still small enough to fit in it. It folded up small and the bed part could be removed from the base. It was perfect for traveling.
  • We are planning to go straight to the crib in his room.  But I will not be Breast feeding so that probably doesn't work as well if you are breast feeding.

We're going straight to a crib too, in baby's own room.  Both my boys slept in their own rooms from day 1, and I breastfed.  It's not any more trouble walking across the hall than walking to a bassinet next to your bed (at least how our house is set up).  We can hear everything on the baby monitor.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! When I tell people IRL that we plan to go straight to the crib people look at me like I'm crazy! And then tell me I will change my mind when he gets here. Ugh

  • Fisher price Rock n'Play portable bassinet here too! I like the portability of it, so if baby is sleeping and I've got t get some laundry/schoolwork/whichever done, I can still be right there/

This. ^^  I bottle fed DS and breast fed DD, both were in their cribs from night one.  Well, if you don't count the first disastrous sleepless night home with DS.  We figured out very quickly after one long night that we couldn't sleep with a baby in the room due to the little noises he made even while content because I was adjusting to what was a 'need mommy' noise and what wasn't.  DS was a grunting sleeper and I was always on edge thinking he needed me.

You just have to figure out what you are comfortable with.  I only bedshared for the 4:30 feeding with DD until I got up at 6:30, and that was only after she was 2-3 months.  Other than that, both kids had their own room from the beginning. I would never be able to sleep with a newborn in my bed. I'm a light sleeper and an anxious mama at that stage.  The monitor works very well and I can adjust the volume if that child is a noisier sleeper that night. i'm sure a video monitor works even better.

The one key to keeping the babies in their own room for me was having a recliner in the room with them.  That way, I could still relax and breastfeed, I could kick back with them on my chest on needier nights, it helped when they had colds because I could hold them more upright to help with drainage and we both still got sleep.  I'm in love with that recliner now after 4 years of dutiful service and that is my biggest suggestion to anyone who wants to keep their baby in the nursery from day one - bottle fed or breastfed.
