With my two girls we charted, used opks, temps, used fertility friend, met with MW before hand to discuss getting pregnant, took soy isoflavon, preseed and the biggie, Tubal reversal.
What did you do to get pregnant? Or what did your baby carrier do to get pregnant?
With DD we had all the pre-pregnancy appointments, I charted, I used ovulation strips and I stopped drinking or doing anything that would affect my fertility.
DH and I tried for a little over a year. After going off BC I had really irregular cycles - some were 60 days some were 20 days. So I temped on and off and used OPK's religiously. There were some months I didn't ovulate and some which I did. It got super stressful.
The month I got pregnant I didn't temp, didn't use an OPK, and we just had sex when we felt like it. One day I thought things seemed weird so I took a pregnancy test and BAM - positive. It was so surreal after so many negative tests.
We charted for BBT for 8 months, then let the fertility clinic handle the monitoring for 3 months. Had one unsuccessful clomid assisted IUI, then took 3 months off while moving/getting set up at a new clinic and at our let's-try-this-again appointment, learned we were barely (3ish weeks) pregnant!
First month trying we had sex on the day I had EWCM, got pregnant, but it was a chemical pregnancy and ended at 5 weeks. Next month did the same thing, got pregnant again and it stuck.
We started trying naturally about four years ago and had five losses within that time with lots of sanity breaks in between. This pregnancy was our first medicated cycle (Clomid with trigger shot without an IUI). I have always used OPKs and never charted. My medicated cycle I was monitored about every other day leading up to my trigger so there really wasn't a need for an OPK but I used one anyway to confirm.
With our first it took 5 months, no charting or temps, just sex whenever.
This time we thought it would take months if not longer so we figured we'd start trying now and be pregnant by fall/winter. BAM we got the BFP first try.
Charting, temping, OPKs for a year. Then we started seeing a RE and had a HSG, HSN, hysteroscopy and laparoscopy to remove Endo and some polyps and prep for IVF. I got pregnant the next cycle.
I have an asshole thyroid so we were trying for 8 months with no luck.
I started out temping, using OPKs, etc but it just seemed to add a lot of stress and pressure to me and DH.
I went through 5 different docs and even one nutritionist to help with my thyroid. I tried gluten-free/dairy-free (actually made thyroid levels higher) and all sorts of weird stuff. Finally, I got with an Endo who knew what they were doing, increased my dosage, switched me from the generic to brand and started testing me monthly. After I started working with her, I was pregnant two months later.
Also, there was a lot of drinking and crazy sex that last month. I know with science and all that my Endo had to have helped tremendously. However, all the drinking and wild behavior I think helped a lot, too.
Well, @lisaren, when a mommy and daddy love eachother very much, the daddy plants his seed in the mommy....
I charted my temps on FF for about 6 months but we weren't really "trying" until 2 months in. The month I got pregnant we used Pre-Seed (love me some lube!), had EOD sex, and that's about it. I've been on PNVs for probably about a year now.
I didn't do anything special like Mucinex or Green Tea or raising my ass in the air. Just had well timed sex and hoped for the best. It worked!
I was at a point where I was getting sick of temping so I had thought that if it didn't happen that month, I'd take a month off from temping.
First pregnancy (age 39; miscarriage at 9 weeks): was a total surprise. Found out at 6 weeks (my gastro was going to put me on a med that wasn't safe for pregnancy and asked me when my last period was, and I couldn't remember. It was on a rollercoaster of highs and lows (betas were not rising properly, but there was a baby with a heartbeat; baby died at 9 weeks, had a D&C at 9 weeks, 1 day). I was freaked out about being pregnant, then lost the baby and wanted to be pregnant again RIGHT NOW.
Second pregnancy (age 39; gave birth at 40 to my son) happened so close to my D&C (I had one cycle 26 days after my D&C and then got pregnant again), that I thought that maybe some HCG was still floating around in my system. But numbers tripled and this pregnancy, although scary at the end, resulted in my kid. YAY!
Third pregnancy (age 41; blighted ovum at 7 or 8 weeks, I forget): I used OPKs this time around, and we hit the days where the test line was as dark or darker than the control. I never temped even though I own two basal thermometers because I'm lazy as hell. I was not surprised to see the BFP, but my gut told me something was off. Natural miscarriage for this one. Fun times.
Fourth pregnancy (this one; age 42 at conception and 43 at delivery, God willing); We were not trying. Everyone in the house was sick and exhausted. We had sex once the entire month. And not even porn star sex. Just "I know it's almost Valentine's Day and I owe you this sex, even though I am sick and feel like hell" sex. By the end of the month, I just had a feeling something was amiss. I had constant dry mouth, which that was my clue. When I saw the positive line on the pregnancy test, I just laughed. What else can you do at my age? I was worried that this pregnancy wouldn't have legs as my first beta didn't double in 48 hours (more like 61), but then they more than doubled after that, and every test thus far has been good, thank God.
It would appear that I'm freakishly fertile for someone my age, and I know how lucky and blessed I am to be here, when so many I know are struggling. I thank God for my Irish genes, which gave me pasty skin that refuses to tan, and bountiful ovaries, apparently.
Me: 42, DH: 40; Surprise BFP 4/27/2011; no heartbeat at 9w3d, we miss you, Baby Manatee; D&C 6/1/2011; AF returned 6/26/2011; Ready to try for our take-home baby. 7/24/2011--BFP! Peanut born March 2012; BFP: 7/31/2013!; blighted ovum at 7 weeks 8/26/2013. Holy Cannoli! BFP 2/23/2014. EDD 11/6/2014!
I stopped BC in December and we started "trying" in January because I had heard it would take a few months. Had no idea what we were doing timing-wise so missed FW.
In Feb did temping, OPKs, and EOD sex and got the BFP : ) surprised but very happy it happened so quickly.
This one...we had sex. DS was away for a night so I know exactly when conception happened
Our first kiddo took over a year though. We didn't do much in terms of temping etc. I was irregular from BC so we knew it would take some time. We decided to stop "trying" for a while and made an appointment with my OB to talk about what I should do in terms of getting my cycle back under control. That month we got pregnant (I think it was because the stress/worry was gone).
That pregnancy did end at 5 weeks. We planned on taking a break/not trying for a few months but I didn't want to go back on BC or anything like that as I was finally regular again.
Next month, BAM! pregnant with DS. I didn't even have a cycle in-between the loss and DS,
We started TTC Nov 2012. I started temping, using pre-seed, and using OPKs in Dec and got pregnant but that ended in a loss. We took a little break and got back to charting/temping, OPKs, and pre-seed. For 5 months I did not ovulate and only had one "period." I was diagnosed with PCOS and after one round of femara I ovulated and we got pregnant. This pregnancy looked like it was going to be another loss based on my betas not doubling, but thankfully all is well!

For #2, we got pregnant by having sex... imagine that!! We were on a break cycle after 2 failed FETs and were waiting around to start FET #3 when I missed my period. We were (still are) in shock considering I haven't been on BC for 5 years.
I stopped taking bc and that was it. I always assumed I would have trouble due to an asshole ovary and that my cycles prior to BC were insanely unpredictable. 10 days here, 60 days there... I had also been on BC for 15 years solid, so I figured I had a while after stopping anyway.
I told DH that if it happened, it happened, but that if it didn't, I wasn't going to "try" to conceive. We were already doing foster care and trying to adopt, so to me a bio kid was just a cool thing if it happened.
First pregnancy with my DD we tried for 2 years. Pre-pregnancy appts and all kind of testing in those two years. I did opk, charting, and temping. Took pnv, folic acid and dha the entire time. Hubs even took geritol (a friend that is a MW said that every time she asked a husband to take it they were successful in getting pg). OB/GYN decided it was time to try Clomid for 3 months then if no luck see a fertility specialist. We (I) decided I wasn't comfortable with taking meds at that point and we basically quit trying (no charting, opk, temping). I was pregnant the next month. This time we decided we were ready to start trying for #2 and I was pregnant two months later. We were shocked it happened so quickly.

THIS!! My BFF's son and SS are BFFs and they wanted a sleepover. So, date night.....Melting Pot.....this baby was totally conceived on cheese and chocolate. We decided to let nature do it's thing back in October.
We had quite the 3+ year struggle. Both of my tubes were severely damaged (and had to be removed) due to Endo. That made IVF our only chance at getting pregnant. It took us 5 rounds. Many shots, invasive procedures, tears/prayers, & medical bills... but here we finally are. I feel beyond grateful to be pregnant & see these babies as our miracles
2 yrs TTC, diagnosed PCOS and anovulation. Clomid worked wonders for me and had DS1 and DS2 thanks to that wonder of a drug. This pregnancy- well, just happened. No clomid. Apparently I ovulated on my own this time and we were shocked but so happy!
dh and i decided to start trying in january but we had a disney trip planned the last week of jan and i didn't particularly want to be pregnant for it so we didn't try all that hard. then comes february and bam bfp. it sounds silly to say i was shocked because we were trying but i honestly didnt think that dates matched up and i certainly didn't think it would happen so quickly but here i am due oct 30th. i have a period tracker on my phone that shows the window of estimated ovulation. i tried temping but kept forgetting. i also have a confession that i should save for tomorrow but it's fitting right now, i took a pregnancy test a few days before my expected period and i thought it was negative. it showed the faintest line ive ever seen and i thought i saw seeing things. even dh was like i dont think i see a line. i never bothered to read the directions bc you pee on the stick and it tells you if you're pregnant. duh. well im the asshole apparently. i took another one a week later when i still didnt have my period and expected it to be negative and my period was just late but nope. still to this day im not 100% sure the line showed up on my first test and i'm imagining it but i've felt pretty stupid this whole time and felt the need to confess.
im sorry if i sound obnoxious. after hearing all you ladies' stories i realize just how lucky we were and i feel so bad many of you had such long and hard journies. i'm so happy we are all here together and wish everyone healthy take home babies.

With this pregnancy, we made the decision to start trying in February. Believe me, we weren't trying hard at all. I think we had sex a handful of times that month. I am not even sure when I ovulated. BOOM... pregnant.
I am lucky to have not any trouble conceiving so far, but I think about all the women struggling everyday.
We were actually trying to avoid. We were planning on trying this summer. I had gone off the pill because my cycles were all crazy while on the minipill and breastfeeding. I had started temping and using fertility friend. According to fertility friend I had already ovulated so we thought we were safe, but then a couple days after having sex fertility friend moved my ovulation day to around the time we had sex. Oops!

We had 3 IUIs, 4 surgeries, 3 IVFs, 3 pregnancies, 3 losses, 3.5 years of non-stop medical treatments, then lawyers, doctors, psychiatrists and finally one successful frozen embryo transfer into our gestational carrier.

This is a really cool post. I like how different all of our stories are, and that it gives everyone some perspective!
DD was the first month off of birth control. I didn't even have a period before conceiving her.
For this one, I half expected the same thing, so we started trying when delivery would have hit summer vacation. Yeah, not so much. So I bought a BBT, found TTGP, and started charting and OPKs. 7 months later we were trying to avoid because I didn't want to have a baby during the semester and then I O'd really early. I actually almost stopped sex that night because I had a feeling O was coming, but we were tipsy (and sad about putting our cat down) and I let it happen. OPK and temp rise confirmed O the next morning, and 2 weeks later BFP!
Well, I was charting and temping and using fertility friend...then we stopped in August, so I guess you can't really say that we used any of this for baby.
I was still on prenatals though. So I guess we just bumped uglies at the right time...
Oh, and there was a bottle or two of wine involved
We conceived DS in Vegas... what happens in Vegas does NOT stay in Vegas!!! (DS had a really cute onesie when he was a baby that said "I'm what happened in Vegas") LOL we were trying though, first attempt and boom knocked up.
With this pregnancy it took 8 months to get our BFP, just having sex during the fertile window every month. My cycle is like clockwork, so eventually it worked out. I was getting nervous though, as I'm 35 (and considered to be of an "advanced maternal age"), so my doctor referred me to a fertility clinic to get looked at but by the time they called 3 months later to make an appt I was KU.
Charting and OPKs. Luckily no difficulty (my heart goes out to those who do), I'm just impatient and like to make sure we're hitting the right time. (I mention this because when I mentioned ovulation date (because they always ask LMP, and I knew that would be way off) to the NP at my doc office and to the genetic counselor at our NT scan, both asked if we were using those things because we were having trouble getting pregnant.)
Good thing too, otherwise we would have missed getting KTFU with this baby. I ovulated a week later than normal and wouldn't have known if I wasn't tracking.

@Lincoln79 I am so interested in hearing more of your story. I hope that isn't intrusive or rude.
I was on birth control pills. So obviously wasn't trying. Honestly wasn't an 'ideal' time as I was living with my parents and didn't have a great job. But still...I love this baby and wouldn't have it any other way.
I was unsure why I was even on BC since my bf didn't think he could father children. He was married for 3 years and they tried for kids the whole time with zero luck. Then since they had mutual friends, he found out that she was pregnant with her new bfs child. So he figured it must be him. I guess not. Needless to say he is super excited about this baby. It was something he thought he would never have
Re: How did you get pregnant?
DH's mom took the kids that weekend too so that definitely helped
