Did the transition to milk cause tummy problems?

Just wondering if it is normal to have farty, yellow/loose pooping babies as they adjust to milk or whether it's a sign of an allergy or intolerance.

Re: Did the transition to milk cause tummy problems?

  • Might be.  My DD was totally fine for 4 days (after switching from soy formula to whole milk), and then started some wheezing and had some diarrhea.  I switched her to soy milk and she hasn't had a problem since.  I'll probably try going back to whole milk soon to see if she has the same reaction again.  If so, I know it's the milk.  If not, I'll know it was a fluke.

  • Could be an intoloerance. Katen got those symptoms and then full on diarreah when she ate eggs. It was determined to be an allergy. It could also be a lactose intolerance.

Generally speaking the transition to milk causes constipation as opposed to the opposite lovliness.

  • We didn't have that problem exactly but I did wonder if my DD would do that for a little bit after switching to cow's milk.  I have noticed that DD does seem to get more smelly gas though and she will sometimes cry because of tummy pains occasionally which I think is from the milk.

  • TMI- DD's poops were kind of whitish the first couple of days. She also gets the occasional tummyache & wakes up crying (Little Tummies usually calms her down). I think it's partly the transition to milk, partly the transition to table food.
