18 Days Post IUI - Will I get a BFP?

I'm new to the community! My husband is in remission from Leukemia and is 100% sterile. Before his cancer treatments, he made a trip to "the bank" and made ONE deposit - that they split into 6 vials. We've had unprotected sex for 2 years hoping for a glimpse at a miracle, but nothing.

Here's where we are:
January 2014: 1st IUI with 100mg Clomid (one vial). Had 4 good sized follicles; failed. Period right on time.
February 2014: Underwent our 2nd IUI with 100 mg Clomid (one vial). Had 3 large follicles (one a size 32); Got a BFP 12 days post IUI. WE WERE PREGNANT! Our hearts broke when the pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 8.5 weeks (March 27th). - Took meds to pass our sweet angel at home; heavy flow.
May 2014: Underwent our 3rd IUI with 100mg Clomid (one vial). Had 3 good sized follicles; had some spotting the day of the procedure and intense cramping for a week to follow. I'm now 2 days late, 18 days post IUI, and haven't gotten a positive HPT (I've been testing every morning since 9 days post IUI).

Has anyone had any luck getting a BFP this late post a fertility treatment? I worry that the Clomid has caused my period to just be late; and I'm trying not to get my hopes up. But our next step is IVF, since we only have 3 vials of sperm left and it's eating me alive!! HELP!

Hey kenzipaige.  I doubt anyone on the IF page is going to be able to give you success stories.  Clomid can make your period late by a few days, and so can progesterone if you were on that?

I can tell you that with my 4th IUI (with clomid) I never got my period or a BFP, and it was found that I had cysts.  I was put on BCP as a result.  I sure hope that isn't the case for you, but it's definitely a possibility.  After my 6th IUI (with clomid) I had cysts again.

GL.  I would say if it doesnt come by weeks end, call your RE and let them know.  They will probably have you come in for an u/s.

  • Thank you for your words and wisdom. I am hoping that is not the case either. I will be praying for you for the IVF process - if we have to take that route, maybe we will both conceive around the same time. Baby dust being sent your way <3

I wish I had good news for you, but I never had any success with IUI.  But, since you've already had a BFP from IUI, I'm going to take that as a really positive sign.

I'm scared to death of HPTs - I just can't.  When are you getting tested by your doctor?  Do your best to distract yourself until then, if you can. GL!

  • Unfortunately for me, I had to completely bypass iui and go straight for ivf. Considering you have so few vials left, ivf with icsi might not be a bad idea. You'll have better chances, and that's a good thing!

  • @AMShark‌ my RE says if I still don't have a BFP or period by Friday, they want me to come in for an ultrasound and blood work to see what's going on..I wish I didn't obsess over HpT's...I drive myself nuts. Sorry to see your IVF was unsuccessful...will be lifting you up in prayers <3@diamante1181‌ I sort of wish my Re would've only had us do 2IUis...we've wasted half the sperm and have nothing but a miscarriage to show for it :( so sorry to read about your angel babies...I can't imagine. Will be praying for you.. <3 hugs.
  • Thank you all so much. Unfortunate news, I started AF this morning  :(

Sorry to hear this. I know it's disappointing.

Official diagnosis: Unexplained IF. I am 32. I have low ovarian reserve (low AMH), and poor egg quality. I've also been diagnosed with mild glandular developmental arrest (lining problems, detected with EFT).

We are using open ID donor sperm. IUIs #1-7=BFN. IVF September 2014 antagonist protocol, 8R,5M,3F, 5 day transfer of 1 morula = BFN. IVF#2 planned for January 2015 (antagonist protocol + HGH).
