Poor nutrition due to MS

I've been fortunate not to have had any bouts at the ceramic throne (at least not yet- 7 weeks today). What I have been dealing with is nausea and queasiness (not to mention fatigue and headaches.)

As a healthy eater (I eat a plant based/vegan diet) I'm struggling with how poor my diet is these last few days. It seems only bland, tan (starchy) foods are at ALL appetizing to me... So I'm getting relatively little nutrients.

I've heard this can be common but I'm living off breads, rice, fruits and some beans right now (plus chocolate almond milk and OJ.) LOTS of sugar.

Anyone else have experience with this issue? I'm almost sick to my stomach just thinking of how poor my diet is right now!

  • Can you get down a smoothie maybe, with some wheat germ and spinach thrown in? I can still get that down. I do add yogurt but you could just do almond milk and mostly fruit.

Unfortunately, I had a bad moment after a spinach wrap I ate... Twice. So I'm not doing well with leafy greens other than cooked broccoli! I may try that again tomorrow morning though, maybe with enough fruit I won't taste the spinach!

  • When I start feeling sick potatoe chips are the only thing that help! I hate it! I have been trying when I am feeling well to sneak in healthy things. It will pass eventually and you can get back on track.

With my first pregnancy there was 4-5 weeks where I lived off 100% carbs. It was the only thing I could stomach. I was worried too but I was told that the baby is getting what it needs. If anyone was going to suffer, it was me.

Good news was it only lasted a month or so and then I was able to eat more nutritious after that. The first tri is alllllll about survival. If the only thing you can eat without puking is chips, go for it. It will be so much easier to eat healthy soon.

My first pregnancy I lived off carbs in 1st tri. I didn't even keep them all down, but it was all I could stomach. So you eat what you gotta eat to get nutrition and calories.

  • I agree with PP's.... Getting anything down is good. Of course we want to be healthy, but the baby will pull the nutrients it needs from your stores. Do the best you can mama! With Emma I ate so many McChicken sandwiches I thought she would be one! But I gained a healthy amount of weight and she was perfect.

With Ace I had a routine for the first 2 months.  I hate having moments with the throne so I found 1 drink and 1 food that I could eat for breakfast and settled my stomach...throughout the day I would do the same thing if I felt nauseous.  Normally after I go through the morning though I could eat regularly...just getting the tummy settled first is the key.  At least for me. Maybe try that and start the routine of having whatever works for you 20-30 mins before you actually eat your normal foods.  Maybe it will help?
