When to unpack the travel system

Ftm, I know we will need the car seat when we go to the hospital, but how soon should I open and unpack the car seat and stroller? Does it need to air out? Sorry if this sounds dumb

No need to air it out prior to use.  I liked to have my base installed and ready to go around 36 weeks.  Make sure you read the car seat manual to make sure you follow all instructions.

Also helps to play with it a few times to make sure you truly like it. Otherwise, return period may have passed.

I like things to air-out for a few weeks prior to use, but it's not a requirement.
I would have the car seat installed at least a month ahead of time.

We had ours installed and checked by the fire department at 36 weeks.  I did, however, open it up and "play" with it beforehand.

OP if you do that make sure the fire department has a certified carseat tech on staff. It's a common assumption that you can go to any fire or police department but they don't all have techs.  A certified tech should not install the seat for you.  They should teach you how to install it yourself.
