CPW: BUTTER!

Completely random... My parents (and grandparents) have always kept opened butter in the cabinet. Like...unwrap the stick, put it on the butter dish, cover it, stick in the cabinet where the salt, pepper, sugar, etc. is. I completely forgot my parents did it until we lived here again - and let me tell you, its GLORIOUS! Having soft butter at hand any time you need it?!

Considering I did it my whole childhood and my parents/grandparents have done it forever and no one has been sick from it - I may have to keep it up when we finally move out.

My Mom once told me it doesn't say on the carton that it has to be refrigerated - if I wasn't pumping, I'd go look myself...

What do you do with your butter? :-)

  • I keep it in the fridge because if I left a pat of delicious soft butter out on a butter dish I would be eating toast for every meal...

    Oh and I should've added - it goes to the fridge during the summer...I forgot about that last weekend when it was low 80s and had a big butter puddle in teh cabinet.
  • It's too hot here to leave out. It goes in the fridge. When I bake I let it sit out to room temp before using.

  • But I also only use sticks for baking. I use spreadable (tub) butter for daily use.

  • Butter is out but margarine is in the fridge.... Cold hard butter drives me nuts...

  • i only take it out to soften when I bake. if I left it out, I would have melted puddles

    This exactly. The only time there is actual butter in my house is if my Mom brings it up with her when she visits so she can bake.

  • I prefer it out, but it's usually in the fridge. My grandmother always had butter out and it was amazing.

  • Always in the fridge! If I'm going to bake I'll take it out and let it come to room temp but for normal storage, always, always refrigerated!
