co: converting cloth diapers to cloth trainers

I'm currently potty training my little guy and would like to have some cloth pull-up style pants for trips out of the house. I have some grovia cloth diapers that I would like to convert to trainers. I'm thinking about adding more elastic to the waist and maybe a side panel like the grovia trainers.

Does anyone have any suggestions or tips? What material should I use for the side panels?
