What is Normal

Into..

Been EBF my DD for 8.5 months now. We have been through a lot (mastitis, thrush, lip&tongue tie-not revised, lanolin allergy). I have been diagnosed with everything under the sun - correctly and incorrectly it would seem.

Most recently I was given about 2 weeks of treatment for thrush. I do think it was thrush and I do think that now it is gone.

BUT I have a lot of peeling skin on my nips. Since I've always seemed to have SOME sort of issue I'm not sure how much of this is normal? I cannot use lanolin as I break out, and the Vaseline made me itchy too (might have been to do with the thrush though), I tried coconut oil and that seemed to increased the peeling skin.. say GYN not too long ago and she suggested seeing the derm.. (round and round we go) last time I saw derm she gave me a steroid cream.. which I still have.. should I just use it again? Or is this kinda normal/dryness/peeling? or should I suck it up and see annnnnnnother dr who wont know whats going on?

Re: What is Normal

  • Yikes, I'm so sorry you have been through so much. I'm not sure I'd use steroid cream, since LO would be ingesting it. Has LO been checked/treated for thrush as well? Just in case she's passed it back to you. Have you tried expressing breastmilk and rubbing it into your nipple after feeding and allowing it to air dry? That's worked well for me anytime my nips have felt dry or anything. As far as whether the peeling is normal, I'd say there is a wide range of normal, though I've not personally experienced this issue. Best of luck!!

I am so impressed with your dedication, I don't know many women who would have stuck with it through all of that (myself included). I've never had any peeling. Dryness, yes. Cracks, bruises, blisters, yes. But sorry, I have nothing to offer except for my support. You might be superwoman!
