Honest thoughts on the name Hamish please. DH loves it and it is a family name. I'm concerned that a child with the name Hamish will be teased constantly over his name ("hammy", "Ham") or that many people won't know how to pronounce it.
I LOVE Hamish. It's not common but I think it's known enough that people would pronounce it correctly. I really wanted to use it for DS2 but unfortunately a few years back DH and I visited Scotland and saw Hamish the Highland Cow, and now that's all he associates the name with .
I don't find this name hard to pronounce but I just don't care for it. If I lived in an area with a lot of Scottish names/population I might feel differently but it just isn't appealing to me. I would mn it.
I feel the same way.
Also, reminds me of Hashish.

Reminds me of the movie Brave, and of the Baby Blues comic strips I used to read as a kid. I'm pretty sure the son was named Hamish although he was referred to as Hammie 99% of the time.
I do like Hamish well enough on its own but I dislike the nn Hammie/Ham enough that it would deter me from using it. Maybe middle name it?
I really like it. I do not think you would have trouble with pronounciation or spelling. And I don't think the ham nickname thing would really be a big deal personally.
I love this name - I always have. I know someone by this name and it's the only reason we aren't picking it - to avoid that whole "no he's not named after you" thing.
He has never been known as Hammy or Ham. He has been Hamish his whole life.
I love Hamish, it's definitely a top contender if we have another boy. I don't think pronunciation would be an issue where I live, but we have a large population of people who are of direct Scottish descent here. I also love the name Hayes, and while it's a bit of a stretch as a nickname, I totally intend to make that stretch, b/c I do love both. I know a couple Hamish's (one teen, one adult) and one goes by "Hay" or "Haym" ...not those spellings, but the pronunciation) and the other is strictly Hamish.
I really really like it. It's on the list for second boy name, if we have one (first boy name is a family thing). I just think it's a name that's cute on a baby but ages really well.

My first thought was The Hunger Games and I thought "WTF is up with HG names?!" Then I remembered his name is Haymitch.
