Can Pregnyl be given sub-q? - Resolved! Thanks everyone :)

My clinic gave me Pregnyl to inject sub-q, and I just noticed that it says "for intramuscular use only"????

In other news, it's spoiled and I'm trying to locate a replacement while I wait for the on-call RE to return their page. And I trigger in 1 hour and 39 minutes...

Yes, it can be taken sub q.

Yes! That's how I did it for IVF #2 and it worked just fine I, of course, also saw the blurb about IM and had a moment of panic. But then was reassured that sub-q is effective and often prescribed too. Good luck!

Thank you so much everyone! The on-call and I called every pharmacy within an hours drive and found one that had it in stock! She also reassured me that it's for sub-q as well Phew!

@katib77 - When I took out the vials, the powder was all in little, tiny hard rocks and it looked like only about half of what should be there. It didn't look right to me, so I took it to the pharmacist down the street to ask them if that's what it's supposed to look like, and he said that no, it looked like it had gotten moisture into it and that I shouldn't use it. When I got a hold of the on-call, she agreed, so I'm just extremely grateful that I checked before it was go time!

I've always given my Pregnyl IM because that's how my RE said to do it. I wonder if it's just the RE's preference?

Probably? I think they just like to do it sub-q for us so that they don't have to teach another way of doing injections and it's all the same? The clinic has most people on progesterone suppositories instead of PIO as well.

I used pregnyl sub-q for my IUIs. From what my RE's office told me, studies have shown that sub-q is just as effective as IM. That being said, the clinic where I did my fresh IVF cycles still has you do IM HCG triggers.

Good to know! When we were calling around last night, the RE said that Ovidrel would have been fine too (if somebody had it), which is what we used for IUI. I'm just glad that I was able to find a replacement, and that I also didn't have to then go and try to find somebody to do the shot for me, since I've never had to do IM myself, nor has DH!
