Quitting smoking and other taboo topics.

Any mommies out there quitting (or continuing... Who am I to judge?) smoking, drinking, drugs, etc. Any other taboo topics of pregnancy?

Rants also welcome, so please, no one get your feelings hurt <3

I myself am quitting smoking (as baby #2 wasn't exactly planned). DH is also and his lack of will power is just about to kill me. Anyone who has the choice I encourage you to quit BEFORE you're pregnant! Now is not the time I would've chosen... Quitting smoking is so stressful I want a cigarette! Not indulging though :) will power is on today (although don't be ashamed, I've had a weak moment here and there).

I've never smoked - my dad was a chain smoker for many years, and had such a hard time quitting (though he finally did).  So I can't really relate to that.

I have found myself dearly missing wine - I think more so just the option that it was there after a stressful day of work, celebrating with friends, etc....  Taboo-wise: I have tried truly minuscule sips of DH's brews, but only because we're on vacation and going to breweries, etc - back home I won't sip just to taste.

Not-really taboo, but maybe it should be?  I'm having the worst time exercising regularly and not eating/snacking too much (and choosing healthy snacks).  I need to drink more water too.

I know HOW to do it, it's just the self-discipline of putting in the effort.  Pregnancy makes me lazy.

  • I miss tanning bed time, wine and a hot bath and multiple cups of coffee to get started in the morning. *sigh
  • I miss wine. I'm also missing hot baths although I do a cooler one anyways and just do a hot spray on my back....not the same but it works. I drank quite a bit before I got my BFP and there's still my stuff in the fridge. Shame to see it to to waste ;-)
  • I definitely miss beer..., mostly on Friday or after a really long day. But mocktails will do for now. (I may have a sip out two of my hubby's craft beers one I am out of the first trimester...)

  • Yes, i am quitting now. I quit last thurs and have cried the last 3 days! lol. Today is the day nicotine is officially out of my system.

Today seems much better but im still in a hazy fog, and easily angered..  i quit for my first as well and stupidly started again. Its hard but so far so good! I know i cant go back and have them but i do mourn the "time out's it gave me.

Quitting my coffee addiction at the same time is also killer with a toddler around. Its taking all i have, i switched to decaf but between 1 regular coffee and other stuff i am hitting my 200mg caffine a day easy =(

I'll have sips of hubbys beer, or wine once im outa the first trimester.

  • Good luck, ladies! I've quit my diet coke habit (and have cut out all artificial sweeteners). It's a terrible vice.

  • I quit cold turkey the day I found out I was pregnant (4/27) cigarettes and 8 different medications I was on. Still occasionally drink coffee and have sips of soda.

  • Samesies! I quit with my first but picked it up again like a dummy. Hopefully quitting for good this time.
  • i don't drink a lot of soda so i'm not really going to miss that, and i was already on decaf coffee because of reflux.  alcohol...that one kind of sucks but again, i only had a couple drinks a month, so it's not too tough.  i have never smoked, so no issues there.  no, what's tough for me is going without dyeing my hair.  i've got a nice purple chunk in the front.  i'm in desperate need of a root-bleach and recoloring, but i'm waiting out the 1T because it seems that's when the most sensitive development happens.  i'll start doing it again after that, but only by my stylist because she gets less dye on my scalp.

  • I gave up smoking after my BFP and was lucky because the one time I did cave, the cigarette tasted disgusting so I have no desire to have another. I have also given up Diet Coke which was harder with my first pregnancy as I never drank as much as I was drinking before. Alcohol was not that hard but I miss the socializing.

Just a tidbit of info for you ladies having a hard time without your several morning coffees! ....it's a proven fact that an apple wakes you up better than a cup of coffee...so perhaps give it a try if you need a pick me up!
  • I'm pregnant with my first baby, which was unplanned, but my husband and are over the moon excited about it. I found out very early on (around 4 weeks) and am almost 6 weeks now. I'm finding it very hard to quit smoking and taking my pain medication but I'm tapering off a little more each day. As hard as it is, I know it will be well worth it and it feels great to do something like this for my baby even though it makes me grumpy and uncomfortable. I'm starting to feel like a mom already c:
  • Congrats to all you ladies quitting! It's got to be really hard.

  • So far so good, day 4 of quitting and no plans on starting again but avoiding all temptations, situations, which i wont be able to for much longer lol my mother in law might think i hate her if i stop dropping by for too long! Its been tough i wont lie.. i think about it constantly still. I've also consumed more mints than i want to think about!

  • I quit smoking the day I found out, luckily the smell of smoke makes me wanna puke so I'm not tempted at all ;-)
  • My husband and I are both smokers, he needs to quit he smokes more then i do.
but im going to be switching over to the e-cig, instead of cold turkey.
We've both tried cold turkey many times over the years and it doesn't work for us.
and when two people are trying to quit, plus my hormones all over the place. doesn't make for pleasant conversation in the evening.
I'm also 15 nearly 16 weeks pregnant, and im tired of people telling me that im harming my baby. I get that i understand that. and im aiming to quit! but i dont need a shove i need a push.

  • I quit smoking the day I found out I was pregnant with DS, 8/12. After I had him, the desire to smoke never came back which I was always thankful for. Now, for some shitty reason, the only thing I have really had a craving for during this pregnancy is a cigarette. I don't understand why I want one so very bad since its been soooo long since I've had one. My husband is a huge support for my never going back to smoking. As much as I want one, it just doesn't make any sense to start again.
