Babies on the Brain

Into & #2 too soon?

Hello All!

I'm a SAHM to an almost 9 month old baby girl. I am finishing a degree online with hopes of teaching online once I graduate so that I can continue to stay at home with baby. I'm about to be 27 and DH is about to be 26 (robbed the cradle lol). We want many many many many children (around 5 or 6), so we always said we would TTC again one year after the birth of our previous baby.

I did not foresee that I would still be EBFing DD at this point. I also did not expect to value the BFing relationship I have with her SO much. I do still think that TTC in September when DD has her first birthday is right for us (I do not want to be too old when we have our last kids), however, I also want to protect my BFing relationship with my DD. Any experience tandem nursing? Or at least - if the relationship were to end.. I would like for it to end positively instead of feeling like it was sudden. I do have A LOT of frozen BM stored up in hopes that after DD stops nursing she will still be able to receive some BM to help her transition to almond or coconut milk. Can she continue to nurse if I get pregnant? Will it be too painful? Will my supply tank and cause the relationship to end badly?

As far as TTC goes - we "got lucky" early with DD1.. and mother nature has already made her return.. although sporadic.. I'm not too concerned. I'm hopeful that we will be able to conceive between Sept '14 and Feb '15.

Re: Into & #2 too soon?

  • Honestly no one can answer that question because everyone is different.  I became pregnant with DS when DD was just over 10 mos and I was still breastfeeding.  I found that it became more difficult and I weaned DD at 13 mos.  It wasn't painful compared to the early days but my nipples got sore faster.  And yes, my supply definitely dropped.  I was sad to wean but felt it was the best decision.  My DD did not really seem to bothered by it.  Actually, both my kids weaned very easily (DS at 14 mos).  No tears, no problems.  Not negative experiences at all.

  • I think you are inspirational. I would rather nurse through the duration of the pregnancy and then wean DD1 when the timing feels right.

Did you have any difficulties/problems nursing throughout your pregnancy? I cannot find too much information on the internet regarding it..

I want to feel that I have the ability to achieve pregnancy and continuing to nurse. Hopefully my body will cooperate with both ..
