Car Seat Question

I'm looking at you, @Nana_Osaki06, resident car seat safety expert. :) But if anyone else has ideas, please chime in! We're looking at possibly getting a 2009 Yukon. (I hesitate to even admit that b/c there goes my eco-friendly card right down the drain.) In my research, I have found that it only has Latch connections in the passenger side and middle seats of the second row. I need to figure out where to put my 2 year old (who will soon be FF due to height) and July NB (obv RF). I hate carrying the infant car seat, so most of the time I will likely be putting the baby into the seat while it is attached to the base in the truck. I'm not sure if it will be easier to do this while standing outside the truck on the passenger side or sitting in the truck with the seat in the middle position. Part of me would like the toddler in the middle b/c I can reach back and hand him things easier that way. Plus it seems like it would be easier to put him in on the driver's side and let him climb into his seat on his own while I buckle in the baby. But easier is not necessarily safer, and safety is my first priority. Any ideas?

And for your troubles...

Re: Car Seat Question

  • FF is "least protected" so that should go in the center. RF can go in an out board seat. it'll be easier to buckle them in as well. It's my current set up.

So is it right that in our smaller car we have my FF toddler behind the driver and the infant seat behind the passenger?

  • The only "correct" place to put a car seat is where you can install and use the seat correctly 100% of the time. Many cars can't do or can't fit middle and outboard. there is nothing wrong with 2 outboard seats. Passenger or drivers side doesn't matter.

Most people will instinctively protect their own side of the car in a crash so for the "least protected" that's a good spot, IMO at least
There's been multiple studies that prove that this isn't true. There is no safety difference between passenger and drivers.
