Cloth Diapering

Cosleeping and MOTN Changes?

Ok, with G, he slept in our room until about 6 months, but anytime he woke up, I would take him to his room to eat and get a clean diaper.

With our next tiny person, we're going to be using a cosleeper and she'll be sharing a room with G (well, all of her stuff will... at least for a little while). I'm trying to decide where I want to put a second changing station. G has enough trouble STTN as it is that I don't want to wake him up every time I change  little No-Name. I'm also trying to figure out if I'll be getting up with her every time I she wakes up? Those of you who co slept early on, did you still change constantly in the beginning and then taper off the MOTN changes? I'm assuming I'll still change her every single time for a while until she at least stops pooing non-stop, but I'd love some voices of experience ;)

Re: Cosleeping and MOTN Changes?

  • I changed every time at the beginning because she was always pooping. When she stopped pooping overnight I tapered off to a once a night change until we worked out a good ON solution and stopped. Stopping changing her ON was glorious because I could just side sleep and nurse her and got so much more sleep that way.

We had everything set up in the nursery, but next time I'm going to put a changing station right in our bedroom because it was such a PITA having to get all the way out of bed to go change her when sleep deprived.

Yes definitely put the second station in your room. We actually bought this huge changing pad and kept a second set of diapers, wipes, cream, etc. in a basket under the nightstand. He slept in a RnP by me so I didn't even get out of bed at first. Just nursed him, changed him (or passed him to DH to change, and put him back to bed.) I think he quit pooping at night around 2.5 months. That's when I found an ON solution and quit changing so often.

  • At first we had a pack n play. She slept in the newborn part and we changed in the other side.

  • When ds was a tiny baby I changed him on the bathroom counter top. It worked great and when family visited they slept in ds's room so changing him in the bathroom also made it possible to change him without disturbing them. Originally, I was changing him on a waterproof sheet on our bed but the last time we did that he pooped mid change and it shot out and completely missed the waterproof sheet and covered our bedding at 6am. By the time we got the sheets changed and bed remade we were too awake to go back to sleep. Ds struggled to nurse in the beginning so I was pumping and bottle feeding for his first few months so it worked well for me to change ds while dh prepped the bottle and then he fed ds while I pumped....then about 30 minutes after ds woke up all of us were back in bed.

Thanks everyone :) We're going to IKEA tomorrow to get a dedicated changing table for G's room (we're currently using the top of his dresser) so we have more diaper storage space in his (their) room. While we're there, maybe we'll pickup a second one for our room.

    Edit for clarification

  • We had all of Cade's furniture in our room for 10 months. It was easier to have all his clothes, diapers, changing table, ect in our room while he was cosleeping.
