2nd Trimester

Help

I'm new to this! I am 19 weeks today and having a little girl! This is my first pregnancy and I still don't feel her move. I am so stressed because I just want to know if she is ok in there! I got a pretty bad scratch from a dog today on my foot and had to go to the dr who played it off like the baby was fine but it's hard to know for sure without feeling her!! I just need reassurance that she is ok and will I start to feel her soon??

Re: Help

  • I think a lot of factors can impact when you are first able to feel the baby. Your weight/body type, the baby's position, your placenta location, etc. I believe that my doctor said that some FTM may not feel the baby until 22 weeks. I finally felt my baby around 19 weeks, and it was very faint until closer to 21 weeks. You may also be feeling the baby and are just not realizing it yet since you are unfamiliar with the faint movements.

I know it's nerve wracking when you just want to know the baby is ok, but try to hang in there. I'd tell your midwife or OB if you are concerned. I hope you feel the baby soon!

  • With my first I didn't feel anything at all until 20w3d. So could still not feel anything for another week or 2.
Also I am not sure why a dog scratch would affect the baby?

  • I didn't feel anything with my first until after 20w. Try to be patient.

  • I am 23 weeks today and I just started feeling definite kicks/movement within the past couple of weeks. Before that, I really had to lay down and focus to feel any movement. She's still little, as she keeps growing, you'll feel more.

Did the doctor listen to the heartbeat? You should be having a A/S soon right? Try to relax.

"I took this to mean that she went to the doctor for the scratch, and while she was there, asked about not feeling movement and was, rightly, told that it was fine to not feel movement yet."
