Parenting after a Loss

ergo question

Can baby face out in front with all ergos? I can't find any where that says anything other than front, back and side wearing. I have a beco butterfly and baby can only face in, so I'm looking to upgrade and have wanted an ergo. Or does anyone have recommendations for a soft carrier that baby can face out? I need a waist strap/support because Z is soo heavy and my back kills after like 15 minutes. TIA :)

Re: ergo question

  • Thanks MG. That's a bummer. Z hates facing in now and I still have to wear him a lot.

  • Yeah... The regular ergo only faces in. It's the one flaw in an otherwise great carrier.

  • I have a Beco Gemini and baby can face out with that. Word of warning, it will tire you out faster. Not as ergonomical for the wearer. Love my Gemini though.

I have the ergo ( in sea skipper) and love it. Tate is on the bigger side like Z and even though he still does not mind facing me, the hip hold is also an option. I bought mine off Amazon, but the ergo website has instructional videos so you can see the holds on the original. Since bedrest and a csection, my lower back has been toast and the thick padding and support is awesome. Tate likes it :) ***i see you mentioned side hold ;))

  • Ideally baby shouldn't face out in any carrier...can't find the link on mobile but boba has a good rundown of why.

A hip carry is good for a curious baby of 4-6 months (a ring sling is great for this), or a high back carry in the ergo after baby can sit unsupported. But not on your front facing out --that's not ergonomic for anyone.

I wasn't aware of this. Good to know, thanks.

It's not a flaw. It's a design feature to prevent unsafe and uncomfortable babywearing.
Sheesh. Chill out. Everyone needs different things in a carrier. I carry LO facing out in her bjorn for short time periods. We have both survived. I anticipate continued success.
