Suddenly picky eater?

I know that toddlers are notoriously picky eaters, but I wasn't expecting it to start so soon. Ainsley was a great eater until the past week or two and all of a sudden, it is so hit or miss! One day she loves bananas and the next day she hates them. One day she loves cheese and the next day she hates it. Last night, the child refused dinner except for a couple of bites of a strawberry. She had all normal things on her plate that she eats on a regular basis and usually likes. Of course, she woke up at 4 am, starving. Tonight what is she eating? Pasta with pesto, chicken and feta cheese. And I mean devouring it. A lot of adults don't even like pesto. Tomorrow she will probably be back to her picky ways. Sigh. Maybe she will at least sleep tonight. Anyone else have a suddenly picky eater on their hands? How do you get them to eat, or do you?

  • We have that too - Thursday, mushroom risotto and chicken. Today, she melted down bc I only let her have a little pack of fruit snacks and that was what she wanted. I really can't figure out the rhyme or reason behind it.

DH is much sterner about eating than I am. If LO won't eat something , I'll try something else, DH won't. DH can get him to eat almost anything. Sometimes he'll wake up after midnight and will not go back to sleep. If I give him milk, he falls right back asleep. This rarely happens tho.

DD does the same thing after she refuses dinner or doesn't eat enough, which is why I do think she is waking from hunger. I can't get her to go back to sleep unless I give her some milk. She otherwise does not have random middle of the night wake ups anymore. I am the same as you, I will keep trying different things until I find something she will eat. I would rather do that than have her wake up hungry.
