Cloth Diapering

Yet another stupid question?!?

So I have some used diapers coming to me so excited!!!! I know I have to do a bleach wash but I can't bleach in my washer. I have a portable washer and it voids the warranty. So I'm planning on using the tub, and I know to use 1/4 cup for 1/4 full tub or 1/2 cup for 1/2 full tub. Buuuuttttttt most covers say "do not soak" what do I do??

If you're dead set on doing it, I'd use a plunger and rubber gloves. I wouldn't let them soak. Then I'd rinse the crap out of them in the washer.

ETA that sounds like a lot of bleach to me too. I use between 1/8 to 1/4 cup when bleaching, usually closer to 1/8.

  • Okay so lower the bleach amount, and only let the covers sit for maybe 5 mins?? Forgive me I'm slow sometimes ;)

  • I agree with lowering the bleach amount, but instead of letting them just sit and soak, I'd try to agitate for about five minutes (the bleach doesn't need long to work). Put on some rubber gloves, use a new plunger, just stir them up. Other than that, I'm no help. I don't usually bleach used diapers.

  • Thanks ladies!! I'm not going to bleach the covers just throw them in the wash after I take care of the inserts.

  • Hey I've got a q. Do you like your portable washer? I've been trying to convince my friend she needs one, but she gives me excuses each time.

  • Love it! I have a haier (the bigger one) they attach to a sink faucet. I can do all of our laundry In it with no problems. The only "problem" is sometimes the flats really get tangled, but that's no big deal. I hated using my communal washers I am so happy now. Here is a pic on how we have it set up. We just keep it in the bathroom unless we have guests then we move it.image

  • Is it really heavy? My friend was against getting one when they rented a house because she didn't want to move it. Now they are renting an apt and it has hook ups, but they don't plan on staying their for more than a year. And they hate going to a laundry mat to do all of their laundry.

  • I don't think so. I can move it if I need to... It has handles on the sides to pick it up.

  • thanks for answering my questions. I know they range in prices, but with how much you spend in quarters and you don't have to lug a baby around, it would be worth it for them to look into one. Now they are just being stubborn. Oh well, every time they complain about laundry I guess I will just chuckle.
