Help!

I'm 17, FTM, 24 weeks & 3 days. Since I have really low iron (I'm anemic from being a sickle cell carrier) I get my blood drawn every time I go to the doctor or OB. Yesterday I went to my OB for terrible migraines. They gave me medicine for my migraines and stronger iron supplements. Right before I left they drew some blood. They called me back this morning and asked me all these questions then told me that they found abnormalities but they won't tell me what these abnormalities are and I need to go back in on Tuesday morning to get blood drawn again. I'm scared, I hope my baby boy is healthy. He has a strong 160bpm & he's super active.
Should I be worried? I have no idea what these abnormalities are. I got my blood drawn about 3 weeks ago and everything was fine, I was just told to get stronger iron supplements, how can it suddenly become abnormal? This time they took 3 tubes of blood which was really weird & another weird thing is I almost passed out and my whole arm is sore which never happened before.

Re: Help!

  • I would definitely call your doctor back and have them explain to you what came back abnormal and why you need to get more blood drawn. They shouldn't be withholding this info from you. Good luck to you and I hope everything is ok!

Also, you can always ask for copies of the results of your blood work (or any of your medical records for that matter). I like to have copies of my lab work in case I need to show it to another doctor. Remember, your health information belongs to you!

I hope everything is OK, and that your migraines have eased. Good luck!
