For those who use Palmer's Tummy butter...

I bought a new one and opened it and there is no seal or anything, it's just a regular twist top. I can't for the life of me remember if there was a seal on the first one I bought. Any insights? Just don't want to use anything that could have been tampered with.

  • I've never used Palmer's, but everyone seems to rave about it. My old stretch marks are showing up again/ turning purple, so I think I'll pick some up this weekend. Thanks for the reminder!

  • I used that with my DD because you know...it's marketed to pregnant women. Around 32 weeks my midwife noticed a heart arrhythmia and sent me to a perinatal specialist to have it checked out. The specialist started asking me if I had a high caffeine intake. And I told him no, that I rarely had any caffeine. I wasn't even a coffee drinker before getting pregnant and had taken special care to avoid it. He didn't seem convinced and kept asking me about caffeine. Finally he asked me if I used cocoa butter. So I told him yes, the stretch mark cream that is marketed to pregnant women! Then he goes "Ohhh I see", left the room and started telling all the nurses, "you see she's using cocoa butter."

Who does that!? Basically he convinced a very pregnant hormonal woman that her baby's heart arrhythmia was because of some stupid cocoa butter. Simply put after the appointment I threw out the cocoa butter and never had another pinch of caffeine. I even stopped eating chocolate.

I'm still not convinced he was right but this time I am NOT using cocoa butter. I've been using Earth Mama Angel baby's natural stretch oil. I love it!

Sorry for the long rant high jacking your post. I think I'm still traumatized....

  • Wow, @miss.brittany, now I'm freaked out! Did you ever clarify with him that this was his hypothesis? How is DD now (if you don't mind me asking)? I have never heard of that and know many people who use cocoa butter.

  • Just looked it up- from what  I'm reading, cocoa butter contains no caffeine (at least no more than trace amounts). The caffeine from cocoa is in the nibs (solid part) and the butter is pressed out of this. This rubbed into your skin is doubtful to be absorbed into your bloodstream in any significant amount. However, one website said if you are HIGHLY sensitive to caffeine, you may want to avoid cocoa butter too.

Haha I'm not laughing at you I promise. I think it is more ironic you were eating chocolate which is caffeine, unless you ate the cocoa butter.

I convinced myself I caused Ds's allergies because I took Benedryl sometimes to sleep. Baby number 2 I took zero Benedryl and his eczema is sooo bad and he had a milk protien allergy the first 1 year. He still doesn't tolerate it well.

My point is it sucks we do that to ourselves!!
