3 HR GTT Instructions

I scheduled my appt though Quest's automated system and they said to follow my dr's instructions...but I wasn't given any. So, I emailed the nurse asking if it was no food or drink other than water after midnight the night before. She replied "nothing, not even water once you start the test." That didn't really answer my question and now they are closed. My test is Tuesday morning before they open. For those of you who have done the 3 hr GTT, what was your dr's instructions regarding fasting? Thanks!

Me: 30 ~ Stage IV Endo ~ AMH .38 ~ AFC 8
AMH .97 as of 4/2012! ~ AMH 1.63 as of 4/2013!?!
Him: 29 ~ perfect swimmers
Laparotomy w/partial oophorectomy 8/2009 to remove cysts/endo.
Stopped BCP 4/2010.
Multiple clomid rounds from 11/2010 to 6/2011. ~ All BFN
IUI w/clomid 7/2011. IUI w/clomid & injectables 11/2011 & 1/2012. ~ All BFN
IVF:EPP 5/2012 ~ (4R, 3M, 2F w/ICSI). Both embryos txfrd. ~ BFN
BCP to manage endo from 10/2012 to 12/2012.
FET w/donor embryos #1: 10/2013 Cancelled
FET w/donor embryos #1.2: 11/2013 ~ ET of 2 beautiful blasts on 11/27.
Beta 1: 503(12dp5dt) Beta 2: 1035(14dpt) Beta 3: 3001(16dpt) Beta 4: 8503(19dpt)
Twins with an EDD of 8/15/14! Team Purple
G&B born 6/30/14 at 33w3d via emergency c/s.

    I had to fast after midnight and could drink water up until I drank the super sugary drink. You can't drink anything once the test starts but water before is fine as long as it's not flavored. Piece of advice, chug that stuff as fast as you can!

    Thanks @LilSip0611! Is it the same drink as the 1 hour? It tasted like flat orange soda to me, not bad but not something I look forward to!

    My OB only does the 3 hour test but I had the fruit punch drink. Tasted like super sweet Hawaiian punch. Good luck!

    It will be similar to the 1 hr, but at quest it will likely be fruit punch flavored. You need to fast for 10-12 hours prior to the test, but you can drink water. You just won't be allowed to drink water after you drink the drink. I made sure to get up early enough before the test to get in some water. I was dehydrated for the 1 hr and it is likely why my number spiked slightly elevated. Also, in the evening before, try to avoid the sweets and heavy carbs. I made an omelette and whole wheat toast with peanut butter (peanuts can help your body managing glucose). The protein really helps with not being able to eat for so long.

    Thanks so much @Allison7!! I was thinking about having an omelet tonight in leu of my usual bowl of ice cream, just in case it would make a difference. I don't want to accidentally fail!

    Haha. Ice cream. I am sure that it would be out of your system 12 hours later, but I didn't want to risk spiking high again so I didn't have any desserts the whole day before. I know you can't really cheat the test, if you have GD you have it. Still, I didn't want the lecture of a high fasting number. I hope it went well today!

    Yuck!!!!  I did my one hour today.  My OB forgot about it.  The orange stuff is nasty.  Good luck!!!!  I hope you pass!!!!

    Congrats on passing!
    Me: 33 - PCOS & Hypothyroidism DH: 35 - SA is good Married since 2010 (together since 2006) TTC since June 2009 (we knew we would have issues and wanted family right away after we got married). No pregnancies yet. May 2013 - started first round of Chlomid & ovidrel cycle.
