Name ending in "er" with Surname beginning with "R"?

How big of a no no is this?  Right now, one of the few (really only) names that my husband and I both like is Ash.  I like it as a nickname for Asher; he likes it as a stand alone name, which I don't think it truly is per se.  Unfortunately, our surname begins with "R" so I think Asher might be too alliterative?  Thoughts?  I don't really care for Ashton as an alternative, and while I've thought of just using Asher as a middle name and using the nickname as his everyday name, I'm just not sure.

  • I don't think that the alliterative sound is a total deal breaker.  I prefer the option of Asher nn Ash.  I am not into the let's call him by his middle name thing.

  • Yeah that would be a deal breaker for me. I can't use any names that ends with an -es sound :(

With most names I don't think it would be a problem. None of the examples I'm making up in my head sound bad.

  • The sound doesn't bother me. I'm really not a fan of Asher, but planning to call a child by their middle name is a definite no-go for me.

I don't think it's a problem. R's don't roll easily into one another.  If you were thinking of a double S or possibly a P sound, it would be different.
