Bedtime Routine while Room Sharing

We've had two cribs set up in the nursery since DS was born, but DS has been sleeping in a pack and play in the office. The office is too hot in the summer, so last night we moved him (9 months) into the nursery with DD (22 months). Both kids have been great about falling asleep in their own rooms, but bedtime last night was a 1.5 hour disaster. Nap time today was a 2 hour utter failure.

Tonight I nursed DS to sleep in the nursery (something we gave up a while ago) while DH entertained DD in the living room. Then we put DD down and she is doing her normal sing herself to sleep routine in the nursery. (Thankfully DS is a sound sleeper once out.) This solution can work, but it will make for much longer nap time and bedtime routines and will be difficult when DH isn't around to entertain DD when he switches shifts next month.

What does your room sharing bedtime routine look like? I'd like to avoid drama and still get both kids to sleep at the same time. TIA
